Area - Bogland

The Marost, known as Bogland in the common tongue, is a long stretch of swampy marshes in eastern Ardechia along the grand river Staya and it's many tributaries.   The Boglands are a mix of wet swamps and damp dark forests. There are many a small river and streams that flood the flat terrain, with the small hillocks protruding from it hosting denser woodlands.   People are settled mainly at the foot or on the slopes of these hillocks, but there are a few swampland villages around which have their houses built above the damp ground upon elevated platforms. These swamp-dwellers are commonly referred to as ''Marostaryi'', and have developed a reputation for their backwardness, dimwittedness, and superstitious nature. Even more than the usual. People like to blame the swamp's foggy air clouding their heads.   There are a few settlement attempts dotted around the Boglands where the peasants wanting to make a new home for themselves didn't quite realise how soft and unstable the ground really is, resulting in their shacks and cottages partially sinking in to the earth.   The area is notoriously dangerous, wildlife and swampland beasties roam uncontrolled through the depths of the bog, and it is unsafe to venture too far from the main roads. In the northern parts of the swamp, bandits plague the area and harass the locals and passing merchants. The region is perfect for hiding something, like a secret layer or stash, but it is also very easy to loose something in, or to loose yourself.   The local authorities have a hard time keeping the area secure, as the bog is difficult to navigate at best. So citizens and travellers are advised to keep to settlements and the main roads.
