Area - Bleyd Vale

The Bleyd Vale is a valley in southern Ardechia and is part of the greater Heartlands region.

General area

The valley is of a temperate climate, and is surrounded by forested hills from all directions except the north-west, where it joins with the greater flats of the Heartlands.   The valley sits just below the foothills on the northern side of the Messial Mountains, also known as the shadowy side, for the mountains facing north see little sunlight through out autumn and winter time, giving the area an overall pale gray appearance, which is where the name for the valley comes from.   ''Bleyd'' translates to ''Pale'' in the common tongue, and the name is attributed to the pale rocky faces of the northern side of the Messial mountains which dominate the skyline near by. Foreigners also associate the name with the word ''Blade'', and think it fitting, because it were with their blades that the invading Slaya peoples expelled the native Arborian Elves from the valley during the The Great Migrations.   Through the valley a river flows from the mountains above in to the flats bellow, a river named ''Lyuba'', meaning ''Beloved''.   There is a lake in the centre of the valley which is named ''Bleysko'', and it roughly translates to ''Belonging to Bleyd''.

Bleyd & Lyubno

When the first Slaya Humans settled these lands, two prominent figures emerged, two brothers they were, to decide where to found a new Human city, from which to rule this otherwise lush and bountiful vale.   One was a fierce follower of the Church of the Mason, and opted to found a town on the southern banks of lake Bleysko, closer to the mountains, and just beneath the mineral rich foothills, from which a forge town would flourish. The other however, argued that they should settle in the sunny fields on the northern banks of the lake, where the valley receives the most sunlight year-round, and is prime for crop cultivation.   One argued for industry, while the other for agriculture. They argued for so long, that they parted and went each their own way, and with each their own following, founded each their own town. And this was the beginning of the age long rivalry between the towns of Bleyd and Lyubno. In the end however, each one of them needs the other, one for the other's minerals, stone, coal, tools, etc. and the other for the first one's grain, milk, honey, pelts, wine, wool, etc.
