Amber Temple
Many stories are told about the strange monument in the mountains. Some claim it was an abbey built to stand opposite of the one in Krezk. Others talk about it as a large complex where dark wizards once honed their craft. All agree that those in need of power should go here only if no other path exists. The beings inside grant boons equal in power to that of the gods but with much heavier prices. For the most desperate, it's been said that the powers inside can be summoned simply by wishing hard enough for something and they will appear, offering everything you desire and more. Few pass on that the cost often outweighs the gain or speak of what a person may be asked to do...
The most trustworthy sources on them are those that guard the Amber Temple, the "barbarians" as the valley folk call them. Lead by a woman named Helwa Icecleaver, the small clan no longer recalls their heritage as Tergs, only their lives as guardians.
Purpose / Function
The old home base of the Blessed of the Night Mother that still works to contain it's prisoners.
Alterations
A large crack in the wall of the western side operates as a secondary exit.
Architecture
The entire temple was carved into the rock with magic, arcane and divine. Much of the stone was transfigured into amber, as it's association with trapping ancient insects allows it to strengthen containment spells.
History
Early in the history of Barovia, a group calling itself the Blessed of the Night Mother and a group of powerful wizards began building the temple for the purposes of imprisoning the fragments of evil tracked down by the sisters. Once completed, both groups moved in and began to act as wardens for a time. A few short years later, one of the younger wizards wandered too far inside and inadvertently invited one of the greater evils into his mind. Exethanter may no longer recall the atrocities he committed the day he became a lich, but the ghosts that haunt the temple today certainly do.
In the years after the Terg Invasion of Barovia, the remaining Tergs fled here for refuge. As time passed, they slowly became the new wardens of the Temple, warning power seekers of it's dangers.
