Lintague Session 3

General Summary

It’s the next day after the adventures of the last session. Marie has looked at the Book of Ruins, trying to find a likely location for the magical books mentioned in the Journal of an Ancient Maji they found in the ruined tower. She finds that there is an old temple listed in the book. It is located a short ways off from the Willis River. The temple is intact, and it has an inscription on the outside in Orgenic, the language of the Maji . It reads, “Seekers of knowledge, enter humbly and welcome. Seekers of power, enter forcibly and perish.”   Marie, Mayo Sauz, Amelia Dupont, and Jasper Wathustret are back in Lintague and meet up and decide to talk to Jakoby Ford since last time they heard he had a MajiMonster related problem. Jakoby tells them that the Mudsucker population is getting out of control and if they help him bring down their numbers, he will share today’s catch with them. The party are also curious about what happened to Olga Babineaux’s eye. Amelia knows that Olga often tells the story of how she lost her eye in The Listing Wisp Tavern, but she tells a different story every time. They suspect that if the injury is MajiMonster related, then she would have told Jakoby the truth, since he helps protect the town from MajiMonsters. They ask him what the real story is, and he tells them that Olga did indeed lose the eye in a MajiMonster battle. It was a cat-like creature and after it defeated Olga’s monsters it plucked out her eye and placed it in a socket on its forehead and then let her go. They ask about where this happened and Jakoby said it happened nearby but neither Jakoby or Olga have seen the monster since. But every once in a while Jakoby gets the feeling of something else watching from Olga’s remaining eye. Jakoby says after he gets that feeling something bad usually happens.   They decide to stop in the tavern for breakfast. Amelia’s parents Grace Dupont and Cyril Dupont are glad to see her and immediately set about getting the party a nice hearty breakfast of pasties. They see Phoebe Ford drawing in the corner of the tavern and Jasper goes to see how she’s doing. She says she is drawing pictures like the man in the labyrinth (the ghost of Lucien Henry) showed her. She says she has been looking for more ghosts everywhere in town but they won’t talk to her. She says the ghost in the labyrinth only talked in pictures so she is trying to write them down. Phoebe's Drawing appears to be of a creature with many tentacles in a cage. One of the bars of the cage is missing and some of the tentacles are reaching out. Grace gives the players some pasties for the road and Mayo let’s Phoebe feed his chickens.   After they eat they head over to talk to Olga. They ask her about her eye and she takes out her glass eye and says, “You mean this one?” She says the creature that took her eye was a cat-like creature and it had three eyes after it took hers. Jasper asks if Olga has any books on Monster breeding. She doesn’t but she says they would probably have a lot of books on that subject in Pearlwich and Bismuth since those towns are known for their monster breeding. She also mentions that forgotten knowledge is often found in old Maji ruins.   They head outside of town and it doesn’t take long before they find a swarm of 6 Mudsuckers. They defeat them and return to Jakoby for a reward. When informed of their victory he gives them 4 MajiMonsters that he caught himself.   The party rest in Lintague for a bit and Amelia checks the Book of Ruins again. The author of the book did not try to enter the temple because he suspected that the entrance was trapped because of the ominous inscription. Outwardly, the building seems to be a temple, or a small castle or keep, made of stone with some stone pillars on the outside. The inscription is over the entrance. Amelia decides to ask Olga if she know anything more about it. She has never seen it herself, but has talked to binders who have. It seems pretty easy to get to but none she has spoken to have tried entering because of the Maji’s reputation for placing magical traps.   The players then meet back up and disembark on Jasper’s boat, the S.S. Sun-Sin, heading toward the Maji temple. They travel for a while up the Willis River before noticing on the shore 3 eyes staring at them. Mayo has heard of this creature and recognizes it as a Caticlysm. It follows them from the shore. They steer their boat toward it and the creature startles and starts running away. They land the boat and chase after it. The Caticlysm ducks into a cave and they follow it inside. They see the monster in the back of this small cave. There seems to be some kind of jewelry behind it. They try to feed it a pasty to pacify it. It accepts the pasty but 6 more Caticlysm appear behind them blocking the exit of the cave. They fight the Caticlysm and Amelia ends up catching the one with Olga’s eye. After they are defeated Jasper investigates the jewelry in the back of the cave and finds Kalumnia’s Collar, a magical item that gives +1 to Wits checks. They head back to Lintague to rest and regroup before continuing on to the temple.
