Personal history
She was the wife of Daniel, a soldier who died saving the Ranger Halt during Morgarath's retreat after the Battle of Hackam Heath. With his dying breath, he asked Halt to look after his wife and unborn child.
Halt in trying to locate Daniel's Farm, uncovered a plot by two robbers, Kord and Jerrel, to desert and rob the families of soldiers who had died in the fighting. He followed the two robbers to Daniels Farm, but by the time he arrived they were already inside.
Halt killed Kord but was still taken to the ground by him. Daniel's wife, seeing Jerrel moving to finish Halt off, leapt onto his back. She bought Halt enough time to get up, but Jerrel still cut her on the left side with his dagger, mortally wounding her. After Halt finished Jerrel, she learned Daniel's fate and asked Halt not to leave her son with the villagers, and told him that his name was Will.
Halt buried her outside the trashed farmhouse, and not knowing her name, marked her grave with a headstone reading "A Brave Mother." Originally, Halt told Will that she died in childbirth, fearing that Will would resent him, and blaming himself for their deaths because they had both died saving him. After Will chose to continue his training as a Ranger, Halt briefly told him about his father's sacrifice. However, it was years later when Halt told him the full story of how he was the one to bring him to Redmont, including the story of his mother's true death. After Halt told Will the full story they visited his mother's grave at Daniel's Farm.
