Young and proud, in a time of great stability, Princess Aiko fell prey to the world of politics. With the her father, Emperor Miroku, old and wishing to pass the torch on his rule, Aiko's brother was eyed as the next ruler of Ezo. Prince Chiaki was always rumoured to be strong of mind. But when he fell in the courtyard, it was learned that it was his very mind that was weak. He began struggling with headaches and pain in his eyes, before he succumbed to an early death at the age of 21 to meningism.
Next in line for the throne was thus entrusted to Prince Koji, but at 11 years old, none had faith in the leadership of a child in a time when war could start with the Confederation. It was thus decided by Emperor Miroku and the rest of the royal court that Aiko would take on the The Chrysanthemum Seat of the Ezo Empire until which time Prince Koji was able and willing to claim his throne.
