Hiarue

The majority of the Hiarue are made up of an assortment of Ruridai, Human and Gijy peoples. This ethnicity did not exist before the arrival of the Wumirru Humans. Members of this ethnicity can generally be found living within the bounds of The Archipelago, though others may be scattered across the continent in small settlements close to salt water.

Naming Traditions

Feminine names

Noble Hiarue females are more often than not named with influence from Elyaras beautiful flora, it is said this is to make up one half of natures beauty. Historical figures may also influence naming. There are obviously exceptions to these rules.

Masculine names

Nobles Hiarue males are more often than not named with influence from the plentiful fauna of Elyara, this is said to make up the other half of natures beauty, completing the circle. Historical figures may also influence naming. There are obviously exceptions to these rules.

Family names

Hiarue family names are reserved for nobility and families of influence. Commoners are only given a first name, with the name of the island of The Archipelago that they were born on. This has been an effective tool in helping commoners commit to war efforts in the defense of their homeland, their name. The last names that the nobility posses are either in Bastard, as most things are these days, or Fybai, the old tongue of Elyara. Some nobility out and out reject Bastard, and everything else the Wumirru stood for, and as such returned to the names of their noble Elyara ancestors.   NOBLE FAMILY NAMES:

Major language groups and dialects

Bastard is the most common language spoken by the Hiarue, with generally only the nobility being educated in Fybai, the old language of Elyara.

Common Dress code

The style of clothes the Nobility wear are similar to those of the common folk, though far more colourful, expensive, well made, and pristine. Due to the warm and humid conditions of The Archipelago, thin and flowy clothes are the norm. Made from cotton, the shirts are often long and quite loose fitting.

Funerary and Memorial customs

When one of the Hiarue die, the Descent to Ascension ceremony is conducted by two Ruridai. If there are no Hiarue Ruridai present, the body will sailed deep into the ocean, when it is sunk, with the assumption that it will be found by a Riya Octopus, who will deliver the Hiarue to the Depths of Eternity.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

The Hiarue look upon the oceans with great reverence, and as such, the texture, coarseness, and volume the sea salt adds to an individuals hair is an ideal of beauty. Almost no Hiarue are born with blonde hair, though through constant prescience in the ocean and exposure to the sun, hair is lightened to a light blonde version of the persons original hair colour. This blonde look is highly sought after amongst the Hiarue, even though it is not all that uncommon. This affinity for the ocean also influences also makes a sleek and muscular swimmers body the ideal of beauty amongst the Hiarue, both male an female, though males a preferred to be more muscular than the females.

Gender Ideals

In early childhood, all Hiarue children are put through a series of exams which they are not allowed to prepare for in anyway. They are first tested to determine if a Riya Octopus will approach them, if not, they are put through various challenges to determine their current skill set, both attributes and failings.
