3/31/21 - An Elephant Never Forgets
General Summary
Our heroes made headway as they traveled upriver towards the Cascade Trading Post. However, the jungle is a dangerous place and Welcome Tasks was ambushed by bugbears along both banks of the river. Once the surprise of being shot with arrows wore off, Melkor was able to make swift work of them with a fireball and Slayer showed off his new lightning arrow ability.
After almost a week of travel, Welcome Tasks finally returned to the Cascade Trading Post. Upon arriving, the party set off to complete individual goals and prepare for the final leg of the journey to Temple Helm . Malikae gossiped with the barber, Alton, as he got his beard trimmed. He learned that it was in fact “his fault” that the Lizardfolk were upset. Apparently they have not taken kindly to a new god taking followers from their monotheistic God, Bo Sat. In the meantime Melkor, Milam, and Slayer got into shenanigans at the upper tier mess hall. Melkor was feeling particularly talky that evening and struck up a conversation with a charismatic Tabaxi. The fellow called himself Longshot and Melkor immediately formulated a way to create some entertainment. After a few drinks were had, Melkor introduced Longshot to Slayer and proposed an archery contest and along with a bit of gambling. Things started benign enough, hitting a target from a distance, but soon Melkor found himself in minor peril as the target became a cup balanced on his head. Slayer, who is normally a crack shot, had a few too many drinks in him and ended up striking Melkor with Hidepiercer. It was all in the name of good fun though, but Melkor did swear a Magic Missile might miss and strike Slayer some day.
Well drank and able to sleep in a bed, the party rested well. However, Milam and Melkor’s sleep was interrupted. Answering a knock at the door, they were greeted by a elvishing looking man with a scared face and his elephant companion. The pair seemed to be some form of illusion magic. The Elf introduced himself as Tamvoi, the head Librarian of Rang Nahan and made a request of the two party members. In about two weeks, the fog surrounding the library will be thin enough for the annual “Knowledge Run” where the Gif to raid its halls in search of information they can weaponize. Because Melkor and Milam are arcane minded, he requested that when this event occurs, they enter the library as well and find a particular tomb. Tamvoi fears it may contain dangerous information and would like the knowledge to be passed on before he destroys it. Tamvoi also goes on to imply that Rang Nahan contains other information that on a personal level may be useful. Before departing the Elf’s elephant companion blesses the foreheads of the arcane users, which apparently will allow them to decipher the tombs within the library . And with that, the sun rises over the horizon and Tamvoi’s form dissolves.
The whole event was quite bizarre, and it was unclear whether it was a dream or some sort of high illusion spell. In anycase, 14 days is more than enough time to get to temple Helm , set up the mine at Vorua Pleaura, and return here to resupply. With a few days to go before Malikae must return, there should be little standing in the way of making a tight schedule.
Time Table
Days remaining until Malikae must return to Temple Helm: 8
Days remaining until the fog lifts from the library : 14
