1/4/21 - Lone Survivor
General Summary
1/4/21 - We return to the present time as Slayer flees from the undercity caves. Once on the surface, he made his way towards the Dol Dorn Citadel to warn the guards of what had transpired below. By chance, he ran into his old comrades of the elvish ruin expedition along the way at the Fresh Fish. This group had planned to rendezvous this evening to discuss what to do with the genie Connaissance. That discussion however was tabled, as it was clear their Tabaxi friend was badly wounded and quite distressed. Slayer did his best to explain everything he had learned from his time on the Plane of Snakes to Welcome Tasks's defeat. With everything they heard, this group of individuals whole heartily agreed that this Yuan-Ti menace must be stopped.
From there the group split up for some minor preparation. Hinterlands accompanied Slayer to the Nameless Inn to allow the Tabaxi to get some much needed rest. Afterwards, our swashbuckler headed to the Church of Kelemvor. His goal was to set up both burial rites for those who have fallen as well as to investigate the possibility of performing a resurrection. The priest of death said it was possible to perform such a task but there are many complications that occur when re-tethering a soul to a body. Hinterlands understood the risks and left a down payment for procuring the material components for the spell. He left the church knowing he was on a tight clock, as the resurrection cannot be performed after the person has been dead longer than seven days.
At the same time, Snorri and Melkor headed to House Mystra to see if there was anything to be done about the petrification problem. Initially there was issue locating the priestess, as the structure was somewhat abandoned and the reminiscence of a skirmish remained. Fortunately, after some investigation, they were able to locate her and speak with her at a local inn, the Safari House. Lilly explained that while examining the planar amulet given to her by Welcome Tasks, it misfired and a demon breached through to the material plane. She feels indebted to Malikae, as both he and a fellow knight of Mystra, Milam, slayed the abomination. Unfortunately, she was little help on how to reverse petrification, but promised to do more research into the matter. Before Melkor left, the priestess imparted some knowledge that should be passed on to Welcome Tasks. She stated that ruins on the amulet were based in draconic, not the abyssal language of Yuan-Ti.
With preparations made, the party headed towards the warehouse district in the morning for their recovery mission. Unfortunately the Yuan-Ti had other plans. Our heroes arrived to find several buildings lit ablaze and no clear path to the warehouse Slayer escaped from. After navigating through some burning building as well as fighting through several foes, everyone arrived at the secret warehouse entrance. It required a team effort to get back into the caves below. Thanks to Melkor's magic, Slayer could swiftly dash in and out of the building to locate the hidden entrance but there was a problem; the entrance had been sealed with stone. Snorri stepped up and noticed that the stone was fresh and easily breakable but had some residual magic to it. However there was no time to waste, as the smoke filled room made it incredibly difficult to breathe in. With a few mighty swings on his pickaxe, the dwarf smashed the thin layer of stone revealing the tunnel that Slayer escaped through the previous night. The whole party jumped down the shaft and now find themselves below the city.
The rescue mission continues, but what comes next is uncertain. Clearly the villains knew that Slayer would try to come back, but to what extent did they plan?
