Suline Species in Pronathea | World Anvil

Suline

"I know they look grumpy...Yes, I know they switch moods a lot.... YES MUM I KNOW BUT I STILL WANT TO PET ONE OF THEM."
— A daughter

Soft under the Sea

With sleek bodies are covered in furred scales with tendrils that act as their way of perceiving the world under the water, sulines love submerging themselves and floating alongside fish and other critters. Their paws are rough to let them have a better grip on the undersea environment when they aren't swimming, with three claws each. Their furred scales are a soft blue colour that darkens along their spine and tail.   They have yellow eyes that they keep closed while underwater, but are capable to seeing sharply in the dark on the surface. Their ears are pointed but can be folded into the side of their head so they don't become damaged while hunting or when swimming at high speeds. Their tails are long and slim, which they use as a rudder to steer them through the water while they swim.

Friendly behind the Face

Sulines are a gentle species, with the males being rather stoic and reserved while the females are more lively. They do not like to be above the water due to their dislike of land-dwellers but will put up with them for a short amount of time underwater before they swim away. They feed on fish and small crustaceans but will also eat plants if needed as they are not picky eaters. They hunt in pairs, and should they have young to take care of, the females are the ones who bring back food for their mate and their cubs.   Their breeding cycle takes place once every decade, with the females laying a clutch of three eggs. Because they lay so few young, sulines are careful to protect them and raise them until their time comes for mating. After they mature, sulines can live as long as a hundred years, with the oldest living past that to 120 years old.

Great article, but an important question still needs to be answer! Can we get one as a pet?

Unfortunately not really, they live underwater and only come out for short periods of time. They can tolerate people but they're not overly fond of them. However, their cousins, the kedine, ARE capable of being had as a pet!

Awwww so sad :( Have people thought about putting them in a zoo and making people pay to pet them? Not very good for the kitties themselves but there may be enough demand that someone would have thought about doing that...

Good question! I've been wondering when it'll stop, but these lil fellas came into existence with the help of the lovely folks in the WA Discord!
