Floating Barrel

"Is... that barrel floating?"
"Yes, what's strange about that?"
"It's floating."
"Yes, it's a floating barrel. Did you hit your head or something?"
"Most barrels don't float..."
"Obviously that one does."

Lightweight

For the discerning traveler amongst the warehouses and markets across the Eight Lands, one might notice the use of a myriad of these useful tools of transportation. Despite their usually plain appearance, floating barrels, as might be guessed by their name, are capable of levitating up to five feet above the ground.   Made of strips of oak bound by lightly engraved iron bands, floating barrels are enchanted to both be able to levitate and be stronger than normal barrels, allowing a greater amount of heavy materials to be transported within them. That same strength allows them to survive being dropped from heights, though doing so is not recommended.

Oakenmade

The construction of a floating barrel is entirely made to order, with the production time after receiving an order taking roughly eighteen months until delivery, with the bulk of that time being used for the barrel to become seasoned. Minor adjustments can be made to each barrel, if desired, to make them tougher, able to levitate higher, or other similar adjustments, though each barrel is always made from oak and always has a wrought iron band.   Though their use within markets and warehouses is invaluable, many of those who attend their local markets will find at least one group of children squeezed into a floating barrel, squealing with glee as they get pushed along by another of their group. While incidents are rare with floating barrels, those unlucky enough to be stood below one have looked up at the bottom of them to find a curious label; "Warning: crush hazard, not for dragon consumption".

Can't possibly imagine why...

This was great. I'm totally struck now by the image of a teenager riding a floating barrel like a skateboard, though.

For legal reasons, the manufacturer claims no responsibility for barrels used for the purpose of happiness

Made me think of the Hobbit, with the dwarves escaping down the river, and was thinking too much of barrels on water to begin with. The fact this float in air makes them a lot more fun! Love the addition of the label.

Love that scene in The Hobbit, but every time I see it I can't help but notice the GoPro on one of the barrels...

Oooh I've never noticed that! I might have to go rewatch it and see if I spot it..

That is indeed a curious label. I wonder what happened, lol. I love the idea of barrels that can float through the air!

A curious label indeed. One may never know what happened, but speculation sure is fun!

This is hilarious, I love it. 10/10 would use this for different purposes than just transporting goods. x3

10/9 penguins agree that different purposes for floating barrels are pre-approved by insurance companies

Makes me think of Star Wars and how there's anti-grav tech everywhere. I'd love this IRL!

I maintain that anti-grav tech is not useful in an industrial setting because if it fails you can't move it anymore
