Barraqim

"Well yeah, they might be tasty, but you're gonna have a time finding one when they hide all the bloody time!
— A fisherman

Talons for Teeth

The barraqim is a long, eel-like fish with a forked tail, and a long snout filled with sharp teeth. Under mottled green and brown scales, the barraqim's flesh is a pale pink color with soft blue spots scattered about its body. It has two large fins running along its back that are used to propel it through the water at high speeds. Unfortunately, these fins make barraqim very vulnerable to attack by other predators or fishermen, as simply tearing these fins will remove a lot of their ability to move with great speed.   While they are dangerous if they attack, barraqims are fairly passive until they hunt. They use their long, barbed tongue to snag unsuspecting fish and drag them into its large mouth. It then easily tears apart any prey that it catches. If a critter gets away from its tongue and its teeth, it may decide to hunt them down or simply bed back down in the sand to wait for new prey.

Tasty with Tartare

Every winter, barraqim swim southwards from its spawning grounds in the north to the warmer waters of the equator where it will find its mate. After mating, female barraqim will travel back north to where they each were spawned. Once it reaches its spawning grounds, it lies down in the sand and tears one of its fins off, leaving itself to die with its eggs inside it. After the eggs inside it hatch, approximately two weeks from fertilization, they will bite and tear their way free of their deceased parent before going off and trying to reach maturity.   Barraqim are a popular food item throughout the Eight Lands, usually sold fresh or salted and smoked. Not commonly found on many menus, their sweet meat will stun any who tries it. It pairs perfectly with a tartare sauce that gets spread down the fillet before eating, giving it an even richer texture and an extremely delicate taste.

I don't really like the taste of fish, but these sound delicious. Though I will think twice about swimming where they live. XD
