Rigil Kentaurus Prime Republic

The communication delay of 6.8 years for the round trip necessitates a high degree of independence from the settlements in Alpha Centauri. For this reason, after making landfall on Kent Prime, the settlers of the Nadezhda formally organized themselves as the Rigil Kentaurus Prime Republic (RKPR), commonly called Kent Republic for short. Later, the settlers from the following colony ships joined the RKPR, to coordinate on issues common to all people of Kent Prime. Today the RKPR is one of the member states of the Trinary Federation.

Structure

The most basic element of the KPR political structure are the Ship Councils. Originally, this ment the inhabitants of a colony ship coming together during the journey to discuss and vote on matters of the community. After landfall, when ships became the center of settlements and the settlements grew into large cities, the Ship Councils instead became gatherings of the inhabitants of a neighborhood of a few thousand people, though the name remained to remember the community's roots.
The Ship Councils elect members to send to higher bodies. In ascending order, these are Metropolitan Councils, Continental Councils, and the Planetary council.
