The Dark Vanguard

INTRODUCTION 

The Dark Vanguard is an elite military unit of the Caeveit Kingdom in the Blue Hills. Founded by Simon the Sunfeller after his takeover of the kingdom, the Dark Vanguard primarily acts as a Simon's personal 'problem solver'. Most notably, the Vanguard were responsible for allowing demonic attacks in the south of Traelec in order to weaken western resistance to the coming civil war. The Vanguard were led by Commander Ewald of Beumurd, a noble of the previous Blackstone administration of the Caevit until its dispersement in 4781 following the death of Simon during the siege of Caeveit. 

MILITARY STRUCTURE

The Dark Vanguard is a group of about 450 military veterans, acting as a complimentary force to The Citadel Guard when not deployed in strategic locations. Their ultimate leader is Simon Lorpus, but they are directly led by a Lord Commander. The group can spit up, but is most suited for battle or skirmishes when all together as a cohesive unit. The discipline is strict, but it created a major force on the battle field in the form of these elite units. 

DEPLOYMENTS

There were only three major battles that the vanguard were deployed in during the organizations short forty-five year life, all taking place in 4781 4p. The first was at The Battle for Blackstone, when Ewald led the entire force to besiege the last outpost of the old Blackstonian line. The battle resulted in a draw, largely thanks to the help of Van the Warden, a merciful who showed up the day before the siege. Following the outbreak of the The Traelecii Civil War later that year, Simon personally led them onto Grinalia plain in Adorea to defend his ally and friend, John Dolion, the Lord of Adorea Province. The final deployment of this elite troop was right before they were disolved, when the merciful and remaining Blackstonian forces attacked Simon's Spire with the help of a Vei force from The Queenshire of Ecsaev. The depleted troop was annhilated and the Caeveit fell in the last days of Noctivii 4781.
