Sliver of Divinity

A term coined by adventurers around the world of Potestatem. A sliver is a divine blessing gained through Nodes of Power. Each sliver is said to grow one closer to ascension into The Temple. Upon gaining a Sliver of Divinty from a specfic Node of Power, an adventerer will be able to gain a total of twenty slivers. At which point an unknown ritual takes place. Adventerers will also find gaining slivers in regions different from their orignal slivers Node of Power will prove difficult.

Manifestation

Slivers manifest in many ways. The exact properties, appearance, and aquisition of slivers is unique to geographic area's of Potestatem.

Regions and Sliver Manifestation

Hazfen Desert

Within the Hazfen desert are the might sliverless Burgeond. They few slivrers as heresy so they pose a mighty organized wall against the aquisition of slivers. Large meteors occasionally crash into the dunes. These impacts leave the stone known as Duabis over the sandy surface. Winds and time cause the stones to often sink into the desert so quick retrevial is vital.   Once the stone is aquired it must be fashioned into a palm sized piece. The stone is ultra dense, often weighing forty pounds even at the correct size. Once this small piece is created one may meditate while holding the stone. Meditation is often subsituted with something that relaxes or focuses a person. The result is a connection with a divine being that will offer to sponsor them. If accepted the person will gain one sliver. Continued work with the sponsor will grow the sliver.

Snalesh Swamps

Drastrix Fruit from the Tree of Snalesh is the source of slivers here. Guarded by powerful leaders of the tribes of Snalesh, the fruit is extremely valuable. When consumed by a Slivered, it gives them the benefits of a short rest. Drastrix Fruit can also be refined into a wine able to endow Slivers of Divinity onto the consumer. This wine is one of the only sources of slivers that is physical and it can be consumed outside the Snalesh to increase a slivers growth. Slivers from different regions rarely work well together; but the Drastrix Fruit is an exception to this rule.   Due to it's rarity and high value, the fruit is often used by the ultra wealthy to gain Slivers of Divinity while avoiding a sponsership.

South Stalwood Forest

The Blood Arena's are known for explosive sliver growth. The destruction of life within an arena in the region causes super fast divine power to take hold. The Arena's are dangerous and run by a man known as the Blood God, so the risk is somewhat balanced to the reward.

Desolation of Alan

Greatly contrasting the Blood Arena's mentioned above is the Desolation. Here slivers are gained still through destruction of life, but at a snails pace in comparison. The necrotic energies of the region cling to those who feed it life. The unique property of this regions slivers are there gradual and partial growth rather than large increments.   The region also uniqely curses slivers from outside the region. If someone dies within the region with slivers from any other place, half of them will be destroyed upon ressurection.

Wisconan Plains: Potestatem.

The Mayor rules over Wisconian as a neutral party. Their will bestows slivers on those who perform great deeds within their purview. Good, evil, neutral, and any kind of act will be rewarded.

Eriarian Vale

One of the richest regions in Potestatem. Dragons of all kinds gather here to hoard the overflowing wealth that the Jewels of Erair collect. The slivers reflect this value. Aquistion of a large hoard allows one to gain slivers in the region. The exact math on if spending the hoard or growing it is subject to further research.

Localization

Slivers are so far only found in the Potestatem Sphere. Over sevnty five percent of slivers are clustered on Potestatem itself. Despite this fact, the planets, moon, and asteroids of the outer worlds within the spehere also have unique methods of giving slivers that are yet to be adequatly researched.

Sliver Symptoms

All slivers share several benefits no matter where they are gathered from. Some debatable cons are tied to them as well.

Boons

  • True Aptitude: Learning new skills to the point of profciency and then mastery is a quick process for a sliver. Many show a lifetime of skill in only a year of learning. This comes in extreme bursts as a sliver gains more slivers.
  • Sliver Criticality: Slivers show a 10% chance during a test of ability to lose or draw great amount of their divine traits and power. Below are some examples of this event harming and helping a sliver.   Atomically accurate dexterity briefly leaves a sliver. They break a precious lockpick. Even though they have picked magical vault locks with ease before, a mundane lock suddenly got the better of them due to their sliver going critical.   Another example might be a small halfing's getting grabbed by a giant. The halfing should not be capable of ever gaining enough muscle to break the giants grasp. Their sliver going critical overcomes this impossiblity and allows them to briefly shove the giants fingers apart.
  • Fortitude: even slivers of the lowest level are capable of taking twice as much damage as unslivered members of their species. Their skin, scales, feathers, and even organs are harder and tougher than ever before. This scales with volume of slivers in an indvidual.
  • Pain-B-Gone: Slivers simply do not experince nearly as much pain as pure mortals. Losing an arm, catching on fire, and other things that would level a normal person simply irk a sliver.
  • Explosive Regeneration: Slivers are capable of healing most, if not all, wounds in sometimes a single hour. This is without spells or doctoring. All slivers show this feature in at least seven days, but more commonly in eight hours.
  • Perfected Body: Many mortal coils are removed from a slivers life. This on top of the fact that they display incredible abilities after gaining a sliver. Usually at first this shows in one, maybe two of their traits. Super strength, eyesight, persuasion, intelligence, and more are the begining possibiltes. Full Slivers usually exhibit two or three traits that are on the level of a lifetime of mastery.   This symptom also removes many malfactors such as minor diseases, imperfections in body, and other things. One of the easiest and often most appreciated benefits is the removal of hormonal cycles. A great example is in human females. Nearly no human female slivers experince periods after even the first ounce of sliver enters their body.

Curse's

  • Aloofness: Slivers often suddenly show apathy towards those around them, and those they knew before the sliver was gained. This is shown in lack of attatchment to family structure, non regonition of previous friends, and a uncaring nature for life. Many slivers simply kill those who threaten or oppose them. This has given rise to a great fear of slivers, resulting in more deaths as most people see fighting them as only a life or death situation rather than something less. This seems to be somewhat attached to their own lives as well. Many slivers will take on critical injuries before even considering leaving a situation. Most slivers die in combat due to this.
  • Forced Ascension: It is rare to become a full sliver. Though those who do often disspear from the material plane, even if they voiced wanting to stay. The theory is that they are taken into the Temple.
  • Selective Awareness: many slivers exhbit extreme awareness for dangerous and insight into those who speak with them. This is countered by their lack of ability to take in small details. Many acts considered insane are done by slivers who simply didn't hear or notice an observable truth. An example would be a sliver fighting to the death on a cliff. Rather than jump into a river only fifty feet below them. They fight until they drop.
  • Fate: slivers have always been the tools of change and great deeds on Potestatem. The final curse given to all Slivers is that of fate. It seems a great hand takes slivers like pawns and moves them towards the greatest conflict near them. Those would would simply wish to use their sliver to farm a little easier find it difficult to do so. One week one may be tilling a field, the next they stand before Letherdon and his undead hordes.
