Session 29: It's Not Breaking In If You Have A Key
General Summary
Calloway was absent this session.
After the fight, the Port Shimmerly City Guard put Tea'sua in iron chains to prevent it from getting powerful again. The Coast Guard debated going into Lient'roc to find Tea'sua's lair/territory to get clues about what happened (other than the implication that Astral Remnants were involved), but decided to hold off on that at least until Calloway was with them. According to Captain Caydense, that particular side quest would take multiple days travel into the forest with a Chelu-kaan guide, most likely himself. He also mentioned that the forest might be even more dangerous than usual, given that the Chelu-kaan are not doing their normal hunting and religious practices due to the quarantine.
The CG instead used the rest of the night to execute a search of Castle Iverfort. Using the key Klaus gave Leaf, they entered the castle through the Chelu-kaan-styled private residential wing. Downstairs, Leaf became a literal fly on the wall (though most often he was airborne or nimble manuevering through keyholes). He found the rooms of Baron Ivan Iverfort, the Baroness Altunka Iverfort and Klaus Iverfort, along with several nice guest rooms. The Baron's room smelled vaguely of decay, and the fearless leader of Port Shimmerly was pacing distractedly in rumpled clothing. Altunka was also awake in her room, apparently brainstorming ideas at her desk. Leaf saw two lines of thought: what went wrong, and how to break a powerful promise. Meanwhile, SNTR-1 sent TA-2 to scout out upstairs, where apparently the housebound servants lived. Most were asleep, although Gobson was studiously working on new cocktail recipes. Vernasco's room featured schedules tacked on a wall, and it looked as if he was scrambling to make them without orders from the Baron. Also upstairs, a room full of objects covered with cloth piqued Emelia's interest. Given her secondary mission (steal commandeer treasure), Emelia went upstairs (very casually), hoping her stealth skills and her "Sir Vant" disguise would protect her. She managed to pick the lock and enter the room, which indeed turned out to be full of gaudy treasures, including multiple thrones and art pieces. She found an opulent portrait of a gold dragon, and made her escape thanks in no small part to the quick reflexes of SNTR-1 and TA-2.
The three reconvened and decided tonight was not the night to try to confront either of the Iverforts, instead opting to break into and investigate the Baron's office. The lockpicking went smoothly, and inside, SNTR-1 found a secret drawer that contained a ledger or diary of sorts. There were 27 entries, each dated exactly 1 year apart. Beneath the dates were a list of objects... familiar objects. Objects that had been at the altar in the Domain of Decay (see Session 21). Noteably, the 28th entry should have been filled out about 2 months ago, but it was empty. SNTR-1 made a mental copy of the Coast Guard's first piece of concrete evidence against the Baron, and they headed to Sultana, stopping by the Coast Guard Mansion to drop off Emelia'sill-gotten gains and pick up Calloway.
