Session 09: If The Mysterious Magical Entity Only Had A Brain

General Summary

Kopala met with the anxious Baron Iverfort, who expressed his extreme desire to stop the incoming astral plague. To that end, he decided to lift the obligation to remand magical items and gold found on missions to the Barony until the threat of the extraplanar plague has been solved. He was also concerned with the fact that both Foggy and Calloway were in the wind, and was looking for ways to broaden the ranks of the Coast Guard. The Baron had evidently been partaking in Kren-sap, a Chelu-kaan liquor with invigorating effects. (Kren-sap addiction had been the primary reason Tungsten Carthwright, the Griffin Bandit, cited as the reason for his robberies.
That night, Furn somehow found Kopala in the woods and dragged him into the Arts District after having spoken to Sid Vicious in The Lodge and learning there was a dramatic stakeout underway.
Back at Liquid Sands, the glassblowing shop, the entity of molten sand appeared to have gained more of a sentience than its previous iterations, and after a tense moment of initial hostility, combat ceased. The entity showed the group how it could not handle the glass anatomical sculptures it had apparently created hoping to make a suitable body for itself. The group noted that the creature seemed somewhat elemental in nature, but didn't behave like a normal elemental, particularly with its penchant for imitating specific spells. The creature eventually went to the kiln and started shaping itself into a humanoid brain. With a final burst of glass shards, the magical energy coalesced inside the intricate brain sculpture and the kiln went cold. The brain seemed somewhat responsive to Kopala's calls in Primordial but was otherwise relatively inert.
Kopala was introduced to Emelia and why she was present. Having seen her to be capable and knowing the Baron actively was searching for new Coast Guards, the team decided to tentatively accept her into the team, pending Sultana's The Baron's approval.
After recieving gifts from Hestia, the party headed to Eidella's workshop to see if she knew more about the elemental/construct that now resided in the brain. Despite the late hour, she promised to run tests, and, now out of direct combat, Leaf brought out the book he had recieved from the Temple of Oghma: Kwalith’s Guide to Spelljamming in A New Astral Age. With a greater understanding of the interplay (or lackthereof) between the Psychic Realms (e. g. the Astral Sea) and the Elemental Realms (e. g. the Elemental Chaos & the Fiendish planes), the party realized the implications of the fact that their home plane lay directly between two diametrically opposed realms.

TLDR:

The glass shop situation diffused, ending with a consciousness inside a glass brain, which was taken to Eidella. The Baron changed the contract to the benefit of the Coast Guard, and seemed... stressed. The party tentatively accepts Emelia pending Iverfort approval. World Axis Cosmology was explained.
