Dewaur
Dewaur is a small town, designed as capital of the Vinhlua region and hosts the palace of the Sultan of the region.
Demographics
The vast majority of the settled population in Dewaur are humans of Hintadu ethnicity. Although in the recent years, some merchants from Saythian and the Dragon Kingdom have move in the town, the most notable of them is James Creek, that after suppressing a Kawa farmers' uprising, was awarded the title of Viceroy. The population is composed mostly of farmers and fishermen, which provide a discernible contrast to the lavish appearance of the Sultan's palace and his court.
Government
The governor of the region is the Sultan Jaid Sarit, although in the last three years juridical day-by-day business have been completely left in the hands of the Viceroy James Creek who, seeking to aggressively fight piracy, established oppressive laws and heavy taxes on the population.
Defences
The garrison of the town guard comprises two hundred infantry units, mostly armed with rapiers and daggers. In the last two years, the construction of a new brickwork fort, to replace the old wooden barracks, has begun and the Viceroy plans to equip it with a bombard.
Industry & Trade
The most notable product of the region is Kawa powder, plantations of Kawa plants and buildings to toast and grind the beans are scattered all around the town. Metal prospectors have speculated that mining in the surrounding area could be extremely successful, but is currently extremely limited. The other major production is fresh, and preserved, fish captured in the virgin waters of the bay.
Infrastructure
Most of the houses in the settlement are simple huts made of woven palm leaves and covered in sun-dried clay, with no water supply or toilet facilities. To support commerce and production the viceroy has recently invested tax resources in the development of a more modern pier, better roads to connect the Kawa farms to the town and a local fort to increase the security.
Assets
The most valuable building in the town is the Sultan's palace that contrast massively with the poverty of the rest of the town, lavishly furnished and decorated with marble domes and inner decoration of semi-precious stones. Legend has it that there is a wonderful collection of priceless porcelain, jewellery and weapons inside.
Guilds and Factions
In the recent years, the involvement of the Eastern Spices Company in the region has become gradually more evident. Once, three years ago, its leader has become Dewaur's Viceroy the presence of the company in the region has become capillary, leading the political agenda in the town.
History
Since its creation the Sultanate has been transmitted by right of absolute primogeniture through the centuries with minimal issues. Although when the orcs of Toiag Bloodcleaver did start to raid the region, the heir prince was sent to Saythian in a vessel to protect the successor. Unfortunately the ship was assaulted by pirates and, allegedly, the prince was killed. During the defense of the town against a war party of goblin and orcs, the royal husband was killed leaving the Sultan widow and without heirs, therefore Jaid Sarit a local politician and member of the court began romancing her with the leverage of the need of a heir. Although his only goal was to obtain the power and once they got married, with the complicity of some officers of the garrison, Jaid segregated the Sultan in a secret location gaining the power for himself.
