Yssians (ʲɪsiɑn)

The Civilized and Urbane:

The Tlatlochans from Xitzol were among the first of the human tribes to settle on the Gruthen continent. Their first prominent, permanent city-state was built in the Tlatl region. Its people were the Tlatotlyssians. Their civilization was old when the Qhélssénnish became settled aggriculturalists; there were Tlatotlyssian cities before the Ptarshakkian colony was founded.   The Yssian City-States were the beginning of long term dominance of human civilization on Gruthe, starting with Tlatl, then Cheotlin, Garin, and the Citadel of Ysfet.   After the collapse of the Eun Chi and Eunnu, and the dwarven kingdoms, the Yssians spread throughout Gruthe and formed two distinct populations, the Northern Yssians and the Tlatli Yssians. Sometimes called "the Southern Yssians," the expansion and domination of Ys by the the Tlatl region, lead to the Tlatli becoming synonymous with Yssian. The qualifiers of "Southern" and "Ttatli" was often dropped.   Southern/Tlatli Yssians, based around Tlatl which gave them their name, eventually founded a kingdom which became Tzolgarys. Despite Tlatl being the oldest and most successful of Yssian city-states, the eventual capital of the Tzolgarin Kingdom of Ys, was the home city of its founder, Drennón Tzolagar, Cheotlin.   Elsewhere in Gruthe, the Northern Yssians founded a colony in the already ancient walls which became Hœm, and on the fertile lands of the southernmost point of the Great Qh'énnish Plains, a city-state, Callenriter. Descendents of Northern Yssian settlers became the Hœmmé and Callessai respectively.   A third faction broke away previously from the other two and settled largely in the marginal regions of easternmost Ys and into Suvata. These were called the Tzapli Yssians. Their most porminent city-state was the Citadel of Ysfet in the eponmous desert region. Ysfet and its ruling house, Achwat, were among the last to bend the knee to Tzolgarin domination when Ys was finally united.   After the Tzolgarin Dynasts completed the unification of Ys—founding the Tzolgarin Kingdom of Ys—the regional distinctions of Tlatli, Tzapli, and Northern Yssian became irrelevant. Descendants of the Northern Yssian settlers were now the Callessai and the Hœmmé, whereas there were only Yssians in the Tzolgarin Kingdom.
