In'sec (in-sehk)

The In'sec are one of the 4 races making up The Amix , and as such they have an inbuilt distrust to hatred for Animalians . This relationship originated from intense jealousy over The Animalian King 's clear favouritism for Humans , for they were given thoughts - were the first Mind. Such feelings bubbled and boiled for a very long time as events around the humans creation only rubbed salt in the wounds, again and again after the instigation of The Ae's War. Eventually, the insects created their own Mind... the In'sec.

In'sec are essentially humanoid insects, taking features from all sorts in a variety akin to humans; everything from having different coloured skin to different shaped hands. In fact, In'sec vary in form more than most as insects themselves break all molds. Some have wings, others have beetle shell casings, but generally, an In'sec is identified by large eyes, split mandible jaws and multiple sets of arms.

By nature of the insect they can survive just about anywhere and are the most persistent of survivors and scavengers. Many find their appearance off-putting enough that it's an In'sec's only option. Even in current day most travel in nomadic groups called The Swarms. However true to their nature they can be found in every location if one looks under every rock. If they can get there, they can find a way to live there. Once one gets past their appearance and often jerky or too slow movements, they can find the In'sec are extremely dedicated and efficient workers and do well in teams as natural followers. One will be challenged to find an In'sec in charge of anyone outside of The Swarms.

Of all the Amix races, In'sec are arguably the tamer of the 4 in current day, if only driven by curiosity. It's difficult to fight against growth in a world supplying wonders such as food and smells. That and they respect organisation and how far humanity has come. Still, get an In'sec to care enough and they will shoot straight for the heart without hesitation, for this reason they were known as the kamakaze fighters during the peak of The Ae's War. It is an oddity to find an In'sec that fears its own death.
These days they enjoy feats of one's own biology; show off your smells, your colours, your ability to move gracefully, your strength and so on and you have their attention. They are endlessly fascinated with others, no detail too small.

Appearance

  • An insect that mutated into a humanoid form, not specifically a beetle or a buttfly but all that is 'insect.' Because of this, they seem to take on traits from multiple branches of insects
  • Abdomen 'tails' behind them, usually bulbous like a bee but can be slender like a dragonfly.
  • Large eyes that can see violet markings and minute movements.
  • Their jaws are segmented and jagged so when flexed become crushing mandibles.
  • 2 sets of arms - they can be heavily plated in chitinous shells like beetles or thin and nimble as an ants - but generally will have 2 fingers and a thumb per hand.
  • Noses are humanoid in shape but covered in a fine fuzz that allows them to detect pheromones, whereas their real nostrils are lined pits that can run below the nose or along it.
  • Antennae, while various in shape and size from thin to thickly furred, act as ears.
  • Those that do have furred antennae tend to have several patches of fur elsewhere; manes around the necks, along forearms and/or legs or even the abdomen - much like moths.
  • Some In'sec also have wings that sprout from the tops of the shoulders and hang down, however, it is much rarer for them to develop flight ability and are usually purely vestigial.

Height & Weight: In'sec rounder in form like beetles are smaller than humans, averaging about 4 feet / 1.2 metres. But those taking after say a mantis can grow closer to 6 feet but instead become very thin.
They average about 85lbs / 40kgs.

Features

Exoskeletons
Covered in tough chitinous plating, In'sec are naturally more defended even when bare. It's difficult to slash through that skin with a blade but by all means, if you aim right you can pierce one relatively easily.

This plating softens around the face, allowing for some degree of expressiveness. But their jaws remain sturdy and split down the middle from the mouth for the crushing force of mandibles to be relied upon when necessary.

Twice the Arms
In'sec have two pairs of arms, one typically smaller below the first pair. So while they have less digits, 2 fingers and a thumb per hand, they make up for it in arms. Although it would take some training, like trying to use both sides of the brain at once, to have all 4 arms do different tasks at once, so usually the second pair will remain idle or mimic the first in gesturing. But hey they can hold twice the amount of objects, and knives!

Naming Traditions

Family names

Being so taken in by the world around them and the odd doings of other races, In'sec take their names after sounds or words they liked hearing. As such their names can resemble words or even onomatopoeia from others then 'sounded out' for the spelling.
Examples: Shance, Kree or Choto

In'sec typically do not raise their young, it's just not in their instincts and they do not put as much weight on blood bonds as all others tend to. So family names are very rarely attached, after all it is difficult to tell your offspring their family name if you are not around to meet them when they hatch. If an In'sec has a last name it is likely because they gave themselves one.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

In'sec natively speak Sectis. Sectis is formulated from a variety of chirps, clicks and beeps, and tone and intention of these words are also accompanied with pheromones. As this is not something most other races can replicate, many In'sec struggle to understand the tone of their words regardless of the language spoken. But still, they are eagerly obliging in learning Penn even if tone continues to escape them.

Average Lifespan
In'sec, like the insects, don't have long to live but they don't spend their time wondering about their purpose, they just live by desire and instinct. In'sec are mature by about 2 years old and live to be about 40
