Session 58: Dungeons & Dead Dragons Report in Pathfinder Pirates | World Anvil

Session 58: Dungeons & Dead Dragons

General Summary

With a long rest and a blood ritual complete, we prepare for the next leg of our journey. It doesn't take long to reach the village, but they're not exactly fond of Amelia. After telling the guards that I'm a monster hunter and everyone, including her, is my team for the mission, we're finally let inside. We gather some names from the guards and interrogate these people, hoping they know anything about the supposed dracolich in their area. We find our answers from a man named Ashwell, who leads us to the caverns that he spotted a beast within. He refuses to go any further though, so we make our descent without him. The cavern system is full of traps. A flamethrower nearly gets the best of us before we end up in a tunnel with several, 12-foot clay golems.   Despite everything thrown at us, we manage to push forward. That is, until we encounter ropers. We stumble our way through the encounter, several of us taking a thorough beating. Poor Cayde ends up with a few of my arrows stuck in him, Amelia is downed and nearly consumed, and TT is left to save them both. The battle has left me and Cayde's relationship strained, but for everyone else's sake, he decides to spare me. While collecting our loot, we all hear scratching deeper in the tunnels, followed by someone muttering in infernal. With TT getting lost in a philosophical debate on morality and where we stand on that spectrum, I have Cayde follow her to scout ahead. They come upon a blue abashi devil, who's clearly pissed off about having to guard the sealed, stone door behind him.   TT tries to ambush him, but trips her way into the room. She's able to play it off smoothly though, saying she was simply looking out for ropers, and the devil believes her. Boredom's obviously plaguing him, so the two strike up conversation as the rest of us enter the room. The devil's name is Abagor and due to the nature of the contract keeping him posted here, he can't give us any information on the dracolich or the warrior who sealed it away. So in order to get that info and potentially a new crewmate, Amelia summons another devil in order to break the magic binding Abagor to this place. Aliego, a glabrezu devil, answers Amelia's call. We trade him our forever cursed owlbear and in return, he frees Abagor. Before he leaves, he marks Amelia. The mark will fade after she fulfills a request for Aliego in the future and if she fails to do so, she'll die.   As soon as Aliego is gone, Amelia uses the monkey's paw to wish away the mark. Her wording spells trouble for one of us though and the mark hops onto Nathan's body. None of us are aware of this though, so after TT manages to get the stone door open, we continue on with the task at hand. The ensuing battle goes about as well as our time with the ropers, but unlike predatory rocks, the dracolich is willing to talk with us. He tells us he's been locked in here for five hundred years. His hoard was possibly hidden on the island of Murlock. His phylactery was last seen in the hands of Maurice Wiggins, a cultist who operated in Valimar for some time before disappearing mysteriously. Cambri Solaris was the hero who defeated the dracolich and contracted Abagor to guard the sealed door.   We figure our best bet is to head to the city of Elspeth, hoping that the Song of Extinction will be located within the Solaris estate. His holy sword, Mungo, is interred in the Musuem of Heroes also located in the city. Searching the library grants us the Book of the Unholy, which covers some manner of undead as well as devils. A small paragraph speaks of a cult in Valimar that was rumored to run experiments on phylacteries, but beyond that, there isn't much to work with. Once we visit the Solaris estate, we'll either seek out Maurice Wiggins or sail to Murlock.
