Button

Button is an outpost in Scrimpt, near the seam with Torn Lofte. Most recently it was just a dilapidated manor house and a few out buildings along the road between Obu in Scrimpt and (whatever Patch is now on the other side of Torn Lofte), but when Torn Lofte came into the world and disrupted travel along the road, the Town Council of Obu decided to (re)establish an outpost here both as a base of operations for those studying Torn Lofte for the council and as a last stop for travelers before the harsh cold wilderness of that patch.   There are three main buildings here, the manor house itself, a stable, and a general purpose workshop. The manor house is known as The Stone Crate and is in the process of being rebuilt for occupancy. There are a few smaller buildings, little more than small storage huts, and a number of ruined buildings in varying degree of decrepitude.

Government

The settlement falls under the jurisdiction of the Town Council of Obu, but they have appointed a seneschal, McGurk , who has full authority to make administrative decisions and attend to other matters that require immediate attention.

History

The manor house that is now the Stone Crate was here before the patch arrived on Patchwork and has been rebuilt several times. None of the outbuildings are original, but their locations have had structures on them for centuries now, although sometimes only as piles of debris.   When Scrimpt arrived on Patchwork, the manor house and surrounding grounds were the only thing remotely resembling a town in the patch. The house was the remote headquarters for a company of adventurers of a dozen members, plus a small crew of six supporters, that were all present at the moment of transition. This core group turned their headquarters into a refuge for the beings scattered across Scrimpt, cut off from the trade routes and other outside sources that made living in the scrub lands viable, forming the first settlement in the area.   Over the following decades, trade with communities in surrounding patches was established, and Obu was formed as a more centralized trade hub, eventually growing and bringing the decline of Button. In the time since, the settlement has occasionally been rebuilt for short term use, most commonly when travel to the patch in the absolute southeast of Scrimpt was highest, but ironically the location would become less in demand as the quality of the roads improved.   Now with the arrival of Torn Lofte presenting a much more challenging passage for travel to the southeast, the location is again on the rise. How long this will last is yet to be determined, but the discovery of the rail tunnel under Torn Lofte has the potential to make the outpost important for some time to come.
