Scrimpt

Scrimpt is a patch in Cuilt Sway . It’s surrounded by Selvage to the North, Redworks to the Northeast, Torn Lofte  to the Southeast, Alwuul to the Southwest, and Qift to the West. The largest settlement and default capital is Obu, with only one other town of any note, Baste, a boom town formed around a recently opened dungeon.

Geography

Scrimpt is primarily arid scrub land covered in low hills and has hot dry Summers, with mild wet Winters. It most resembles the chaparral regions of California on Earth, but is not strictly limited to the flora and fauna found there.

In the southeast is a sizable shallow lake, the Mudhole, formed by an influx of water from neighboring Torn Lofte. Most of the open land has mid-density foliage cover, with about 30 - 70% coverage in scrub plants, brush, and dwarf trees. The rest of the open land is even denser foliage, with up to 100% coverage, making movement difficult for all but the smallest land animals. Near settlements, roads, and other places which have been purposefully cleared, a more open very sparse density can be found, with less than 10% total coverage.

Fauna & Flora

Some of the fauna found here includes oaks (black, blue, and scrub oak,) walnut trees, big cone pines, digger pines, and juniper trees. All of these are dwarf variety, being much smaller and more stunted than their cousins found in forestlands. Common scrub bushes are jojobas, chaparral peas, blackberries, raspberries, wood roses, and poison oak. Common small plants are grey chalk dudleyas, daisies, yuccas, azaleas, buttercups, honeysuckle, and sunflowers. Many of these may differ somewhat from their Earth counterparts, of course, especially in coloration, but are otherwise virtually identical. Some of the normal animals found here include mule deer, raccoons, skunks, opossums, gray foxes, coyotes, enormous bees, acorn woodpeckers, scrub jays, wrentits, javelina, kangaroo rats, and all sorts of ordinarly insects.

History

Scripmt arrived in Patchwork 282 years ago and is the oldest Patch in Cuilt Sway, and is a close contender for oldest for hundreds of miles in any directions. Beyond age, the Patch has had very little to offer, except as a bump in the road on the trade route between other, more prosperous Patches and has thus remained a relatively sleepy Patch.

Torn Lofte arrived to local South about eight months ago, disrupting the trade route to the Patch there, but bringing an influx of water and creating the Mudhole. The silty water of the Mudhole and potential for harvesting of ice for clean water brings promises of improvements for the residents here.

Torn Lofte also brought a mysterious tunnel into the cliff face at the Seam between that patch and Scrimpt. The tunnel was identified as a rail tunnel by someone familiar with that sort of technology, and the town council of Obu authorized (and paid for) and investigation by the Pathfinder Society located in Obu.
