Til-Yaltur

Emperor Til-Yaltur

"No one knows where he came from, or what name he had at birth, but you know what? No one really cares. He unified the Empire, gave the Sakamohr a bloody nose, and is probably the greatest Imperial ever born. Sure, some purists insist on saying he was really a noble and all that, but it really doesn't matter. He's been dead over two hundred years, and his legacy is still here."
The most important figure in the last three hundred years, Til-Yaltur unified the Empire after almost 700 years of separation and forced the Sakamohr Confederacy to accept punitive measures, never to threaten the Empire since. A genius military mind, a charismatic diplomat, and one who burned with the fervent light of belief in his god, Til-Yaltur never spoke of his origins, for fear that it would alienate the very Empire he was trying to save.

Personal history

Prior to his taking control of the armies in Enim and beginning his crusade to reunify a broken Empire, nothing is really known of the man who was called Til-Yaltur. The official story is that, although the name he received at birth is unknown, he was of noble birth, but to an unknown house, and was a Captain in the garrison at Enim. After seeing first-hand the depravations of the Sakamohr, he resolved to save the Empire, inspired his men to follow him, and began his long conquest of Imperial lands.   The reality, unknown to all, is that Til-Yaltur, born Decius Iunianus, was the illegitimate child of an Enim prostitute, and received no military training at all. He was a quick learner, however, and almost supernaturally liked by all he met, and soon picked up the basics taught to all soldiers. When he was eighteen, he was regularly stealing military uniforms and joining units in their patrols of the area, using his quick charms and charisma to avoid either discovery or punishment.   By his twenty-first birthday, Decius was variously employed in a number of schemes to earn a living, and probably would've slid through life as a confidence trickster, preying on gamblers, relieving unworthy marks of their ill-gotten gains. This all changed when he received the first of his visions from Yaltur.   The exact nature of the vision was unclear, but Decius became convinced that his real father was none other than Yaltur himself, and that as his son, he had a destiny to rebuild the Empire that once bore his name. He used his charisma and charm to present himself as a noble-born captain, newly arrived in Enim, and was given command of a unit. He quickly built up a cadre of loyal and understanding companions, some from the unit he had received command, and some from people he had known prior to taking up his deception. It was this select group, and only them, who were privy to Decius' real origins.   A second vision solidified Decius' drive and ambition, and he gave a rousing speech to the couple of thousand troops stationed in Enim who, officers and common men alike, vowed to follow him in his crusade. Taking up the name Til-Yaltur, he lead his newly gained army south, gathering strength as he progressed. Soldiers and mercenaries saw in him a brilliant military leader, peasants saw him as one who would bring much needed stability and prosperity to the lands, and those far-sighted nobles who didn't oppose him saw a future leader they could rally behind.   The crusade lasted four years, and all were either defeated, or joined voluntarily, and in the end, The Empire of Belyos was reborn, and Til-Yaltur received his crown on the High Throne in front of his newly appointed Elector Lords.
