Theodorus Seneca

Lord Theodorus Seneca, of Arall

"You're new here, so I'll make it simple. Keep your head down and don't stray from your workplace, Lord Seneca isn't one who likes being disturbed, whatever he's doing. If he catches you and out and about, well, you might get lucky and he might not care. I've heard its better if he's having a bad day though, a bit o'shouting, maybe a raised fist or a whipping, sometimes it's worse, but not often. If he's in one of his good moods though, and on the lookout.... well. My advice is just to go with it, it'll be over soon."
Theodorus Seneca is the current Elector Lord of Arall, and head of the Seneca Noble House. A portly man in his eighties, his jovial appearance disguises a rather ruthless and capricious ruler who has managed to keep his unpleasant nature from the wider Imperial nobility scene. However, his castle at Nalkeli is a quiet, repressed place, where servants move around hastily, lest they draw the unwelcome attention of their lord.

Personal history

Born in 1823 in the Arallese capital of Nalkeli, Theodorus was heir to the Seneca house and, by extension, the Elector Lord of Aral. His father, Rufius, was a well-respected statesman, who often travelled to Belyos to attend the emperor at the time, Til-Adver, leaving Theodorus to be raised by his mother, Junu, and a sequence of tutors and guardians. Although constantly denied by his mother, rumours of Theodorus' capricious nature circulated even then, with his tutors never able to tell what mood the young noble was going to be in.   He was married relatively young, at 19, to a woman aged 32 from one of the wealthier landed houses of Arall, bringing the wealth of that house into the Seneca house. They have one son named Casia, born in 1850, and insiders indicate that the marriage is fairly loveless, with both sides seeing it as a business arrangement, rather than a relationship. Like his father before him, Theodorus has largely abdicated the raising of his son to others.   Theodorus inherited the position of Elector Lord when he was 45, and soon consolidated his power, removing most of his fathers appointments and replacing them with those of his own. His son, Casia has been assigned as ambassador to Belyos for the last 25 years. This was done to both to remove him as a potential threat to Theodorus' own authority, and to gain valuable experience in statesmanship for when he eventually took the role as Elector Lord; something that Theodorus acknowledges he lacked in his own education.   In the 38 years of his rule, Arall has continued to prosper, with Theodorus maintaining the largely hands-off approach to the more rural area in governance, only getting involved with tax collection. He improved the forts along the border with the Lake Plateau region, reducing the number of raids, but has yet to agree to a punitive attack on the region in return.
