Cogroa
Of the continents that cross the equator, Cogroa is the least habitable. Despite the hostile environment, it remains one of the most populated areas on Pallo. The Boiling Ocean is dangerous to sail, and few vessels can survive the journey. Those that can make the journey cannot carry much more than the crew to operate the ship.
A major city on the eastern shore makes use of the incredible winds and heat of the ocean to remain aloft. Lark, the Lofted City is a work of wonder. It is the highlight of Cogroa, though difficult to visit for any non-avian folk.
Tympa is the largest city-state on the continent and sits on the southern most point on Cogroa. It has seen a boom in the last few centuries with the rise of The Republic of Samaria.
Aghreb sits in the center of the continent, surrounded by harsh environments. It stands as a respite along the trade route, and sits in the only habitable land that isn't along a coast.
Along the northern coast there are several small settlements established by various countries as ports to funnel their trade through. None of them are truly established settlements and often move as treaties and wars shift.
Geography
There is a volcano in the east, amd a mountain range up the western coast, but otherwise the continent is very flat. The desert dunes stand tall and change substantially with the winds.
Ecosystem
The intense, dry heat makes living here difficult for most creatures. There are some lizards and snakes that use the heat to keep warm, and insects that prey on carrion. These animals don't exist in large numbers here and have found a tenuous balance. All of these creatures have evolved systems which enable them to make the most of the scarce resources around them.
Localized Phenomena
A unique form of vampirism, plus a unique material, exists here because of a special snake called the spitting viper. These snakes have developed a system from which they can drain blood from a victim and receive nutrients and, most importantly, water from their prey. They got the name spitting viper because once the blood they have consumed is processed, the left over coagulated material is then regurgitated.
