Early Life
Yassine Knottman was one of the two sons of August Solarin and
Finn Knottman. They were grown in an artificial womb.
Yassine was the quieter of the two brothers. He was interested in art and writing and his teachers described him as “something of a dreamer”.
In high school, he had something of a political awakening, becoming deeply invested in the
Schilling government and the wider progressive cause.
Yassine attended Rupial College in 2608, studying government. Yassine’s grades were fairly average, he was heavily involved in student politics and has volunteered in local campaigns in
Dhaka City. He was granted a brief meeting with President
Walt Schilling in 2609 which was a highlight for him.
During his summer break in 2609 he took part in a foreign exchange to the
Gannid Commonwealth where he made a good impression with the ambassadorial staff.
Yassine graduated from
Ruplal College in 2611 in the top half of this class.
Diplomatic Corps
Yassine took a job in the Republic’s diplomatic corps. helped by a letter of recommendation by former Foreign Secretary Grogan Westfield (
Gurava).
Yassine was assigned the prestige assignment of the
Tazzyn diplomatic staff and despite the difficulty of his work, he was assigned to work as a part of the primary detail working across the Tazzyn border. He was promoted in 2614 and assigned to the Terran embassy in Tazzyn space as a political adviser to the ambassador. On top of the complex court politics, he struggled with the Deputy Ambassador, whom he felt tried to sideline him on many occasions.
In 2619, Yassine was transferred to the Foreign Office to serve as a political adviser. This wasn’t a demotion but it was definitely a sideways step. In private correspondence with his father, Yassine admitted that “he had not excelled” in his last role and that he needed to get “back on the horse.”
