Mandate Day

Mandate Day occurs on the 1st day of Alerian each year, and marks the day Alerio acended to the throne of The Imperial League in 1IE.

History

The day Alerio accended to the Imperial throne was dubbed Mandate Day. The newly minted Imperial Senate decreed as one of its first legislative acts that Mandate Day was to be celebrating each year. Following The Devastation of Skyreach, the death of Alerio, and the subsequent collapse of the Imperial League, Mandate Day did not cease as a tradition. Whilst traditions associated with the celebration have diverged in different regions, Mandate Day is still widely observed on The Velvet Coast, and in the Grand Duchy of Novaya and Holzreich.   The nobility of The Velvet Coast often leverage renewed Imperial sentiment on Mandate Days to drum up support for political causes and acts by appealing to a desire to restore The Imperial League.

Execution

Mandate Day during the days of The Imperial League traditionally commenced with an address to the citizens of Skyreach by Emperor Alerio, or by the highest ranking imperial official in other settlements. This was followed by a parade by Imperial Legions through the streets of major cities. In the evenings, the nobility would gather for huge feasts, whilst the common folk would hold carnivals and fairs.   Following the collapse of the League, Holzreich maintained the tradition of an address by nobility and military parades. The Grand Duchy of Novaya on the other hand shifted the focus more to the commoner festivites, with Novayan Cities hosting large carnivals teeming with unique entertainment and food.
