Skyhammer

The capital of the Central Safe Zone. The unique feature of this city is the giant stone hammer that gives it its name. The snapped off head of a stone warhammer lies sticking up, at an angle, in the centre of the city. The head is around a mile long, half a mile wide and a similar amount high. The shaft of the hammer, also made of stone, is snapped off around three hundred feet from the head. Where it came from is unknown, but it is generally believed to have fallen from the sky.
This remarkable feature became an early rallying point for humanoids as they fought against monsters for hundred of years. The stone of the hammer has been cut into for houses and store-rooms. Windows and doorways poke out of the hammers sides all the way up to its highest point.
The city around the hammer was a later addition. It has three concentric walls. The inner most is built up to the ends of the hammer and is called the 'old wall'. It has not been maintained in centuries. The second wall is called the 'mighty wall'. It stands fifty feet high and forty feet thick at its base. For most of the city's history it was the primary line of defence. The third and most recent wall is called the 'prosperity wall'. It was built to protect some of the early farms that grew up around the city but was obsolete even before it was finished; the Safe Zone had grown large enough that such a defence was no longer needed.
A set of steps has been cut into the shaft of the hammer leading to an observation platform at the very top. It is said that on a clear day one can see all the way to the eastern coast in the Coastal Safe Zone.
Skyhammer is, by size and by population, the largest humanoid city in the world.
