11, the Dovecotes

This residence is currently owned by Flaadjen, and a sometimes temporary home to Essendra Blomblaadj, Ursa and Butterfly.
It is typical of homes in towns situated within a safe zone.

Layout

The ground floor consists of a front-to-back corridor, allowing access to the small garden at the rear. From the corridor two doors lead into the downstairs rooms - a sitting room at the front and and the kitchen at the back. Between the two rooms there is a steep set of stairs up to the first floor. The first floor rooms are two bedrooms. Flaadjen uses the larger and quieter room at the back, the other is used by Essendra and Ursa when they are present, but is otherwise a storage room. That, smaller, bedroom has reduced headroom due to the stairs up from this level running down one wall, leaving an overhang. The second floor has one bedroom, unused. The third floor has more storage space, and small windows in all four walls. Access to the loft is by means of a ladder.

Purpose / Function

The property has been a private residence for the entirety of its existence. It was, for some time, a family home with multiple bedrooms. Since tragedy struck Flaadjen, he has lived alone.

Alterations

Shortly before Flaadjen purchased the house it was extended by the addition of an extra floor. This gives it one more level than the houses on either side of it.

History

The road's name reflects that there used to be a dovecote at one end of the street. This was one way that messages were passed between towns before the Central Safe Zone grew to encompass them. Vellanixhal has been deep inside a safe zone for so long that no trace of the dovecote remains apart from the name of the road.
Although most of the houses on the road are very old, number 11 was built more recently; within the last 100 years. It was inserted into a gap between two existing properties and consequently is narrower than them.
