The Massacre of Mor Toith

The Massacre of Mor Toith, initially referred to as the Battle for Dominance, was the largest conflict involving the Human realms and the Demon Empire to date. It took place in 567, after a long period of medium sized conflicts on the border between the Fortern Kingdom and the Empire.   During this battle occured many horrors, such as the complete decimation of Mor Toith's civillian population, the extermination of 25 000 soldiers in a single blast of fire magic...   The battle occurred in three locations near the eastern Demon city of Mor Toith. The southern front was located near the Carsil Forest. The second was before Mor Toith itself, and the third occurred nfor control of the hill to the north of the city.

The Conflict

Prelude

Apostoli and Dentra sent expeditionnary forces to assist Fortern, Rossan-Valid did not. Diplomatic exchanges between the reluctant Dukedom and the Empire successfully kept them from participating though it would make them a target later.   Before the Battle, the commanders-in chief of each side parleyed one last time. It was quite brief. The battle seemed classic. Three armies on each sides, one to the north, up hillocks, one in the South, with plains and bushes neighbouring the Carsil forest, and the last as a siege below the city of Mor Toith. The Fulmination Havoc put itself between the Southern and Middle battlefield, placing their Portable Magic Tower on top of a cliff, they were part of the middle army, but sufficiently distanced to have an impact on all battlefields.

Deployment

Three armies on both sides: Northern Demon army: 20000 demons, 5000 humans, 1000 Ahurans 1500 Beast-men, 500 dwarves and various allies. All under direct command of Emperor Fur Paveth Goldson. 55 High-ranked tamed Monsters under control of Demon Lord Mor Natar Beastseeker Northern Human army: 47000 humans, 24 Hero class Knights (=500 soldiers).   Southern Demon Army: 12000 demons, 4000 humans and 2000 ahurans, 100 tamed monsters Under the command of General Das Durge “The Pike”. Southern Human Army: 25000 humans, Five heroes. First believed to be under the command of General Gregorio of Rossan-Valid, but revealed to follow the orders of General Braise Borjack. Note: This army was later revealed to be composed of unappreciated knights, heroes and various political opponents to Fortern's King's rule.   Additionnaly the4 Magic towers artillery units from the Legion army to provide support fire and eliminate comanding officers and Heroes. Three of those supported the city while the fourth (commanded by Havok Ar Vari) watched over the southern battlefield.

The Engagement

On the first day: The Demon army took the upper hand in the southern and middle battlefield. The Northern front appear to have difficulties repelling the large human army that began grinding their sides thanks to their heroes on the vanguard. On the second day: The Northern Demon army let the humans walk deeper into their lines before revealing the High-Rank monsters, tamed by Demon Lord Beastseeker, and hidden in fake watchtowers. Five Human Heroes died in the following counter-offensive and the Human army's number were reduced by a third. But the events on the southern battlefield destroyed those efforts completely. The Southern Demon Army had made great progress The City defense hold their own and the barrier around the city did not falter.

Outcome

At first viewing the event as a victory for Fortern since the afflicted territory was the Empire and how they lost a full city-state in the process. The Fortern Kingdom's populace felt a boost in overall happiness.

The Demon Empire's plans were put on hold, and a focus on recovery was instaured.

Aftermath

The residue of the Hell Dome attracted hordes of Monsters from both the Carsil and the Fana forests. Making thefrontier between Fortern and the Demon Empire completely inhospitable. An urgent Treaty of Equor had to be assembled to berate Fortern's aggressive actions of late, forbid the employ of Mana Coalescence magic that destroyed 35 000 men in a single use, as well as calm the tensions between all realms.
