Howling Horde
The Howling Horde is the northernmost of the Prairie Clans, an Orokhim tribe known for their haunting battle cry and their ruthlessness even towards each other. They occupy the cold, dry steppes of the border between Dreibach and Erdelan, and frequently skirmish with the Beacon of the Skylands where their territories overlap.
Of all orokhim societies, even within the worshippers of Gruumsh, their society cares for the old and infirm the least. They slaughter Wargs who can no longer be ridden or properly used as guards and use their fur to make coats. Similarly, when a person grows old enough to have difficulty traveling or hunting, they are ceremonially stripped of their warm clothing and left behind as the tribe moves, doomed to die of exposure or attack.
The unearthly keening noise of their battle cry, similar to the howling of wolves but higher-pitched, serves to frighten and intimidate oncoming armies and helpless villages alike. It is a common feature of ghost stories and ballads in the Northern Duchy.
Many of the Dragogora of Dodiöu Réijmí can trace their ancestry back to high warriors of the Howling Horde. It is believed that the highest chief of the Horde is one of the only outsiders who knows the precise location of the city, though this information is guarded so heavily that it is impossible to verify.
