Dovrian Plains
The Dovrian Plains are an expanse of flat land and prairie that makes up the bulk of the territory of the modern-day Dreibach Empire. It is named for the ancient civilization of Dovria, which grew and flourished there during the Age of Audacity.
Geography
The Dovrian Plains are a crescent-shaped stretch of flatlands and prairies within the central and south-central portion of Belcantas. They are bordered by the Blue Mountains to the north, the Ossir Hills to the northeast and east, the Western Woods to the west, the Verlorenwode to the southwest, and the Impossible Mountains to the south. A small branch of the Dovrian Plains, south of Adamant, stretches all the way to the Aegirran Sea. The floodplains of the Dreibach River and southern Lüdda River pass through the plains, creating ideal conditions for farming settlements.
Climate
There is a wide range of weather within the Dovrian Plains, with all four seasons presenting strongly. Early summer is hot and dry, with high humidity and thunderstorms appearing in July and August. Tornados are also common during this season. Autumn cools rapidly into a cold and snowy winter with high winds. Spring is cool and damp, and starts relatively later than on the coasts.
Fauna & Flora
The Dovrian Plains are home to a number of megafauna species, with bison, elk, sheep, and wild horses being the most common. Smaller mammals include prairie dogs, gophers, harvest mice, jackalopes, and the black-footed ferret. Rattlesnakes, box turtles, and bulettes are found along the western and southwestern expanses of the plains. Purple Worms are sometimes seen burrowing in the western edges of the plains.
Natural Resources
The rich topsoil of the Dovrian Plains is excellent for farming. Primary crops include wheat, corn, and barley, though rice can also be grown in the southeastern regions. Large swaths of the Plains are also used for grazing pastures by both settled and semi-nomadic populations, particularly those of the Prairie Clans.
