Purple Worm
Purple worms are an apex predator found rarely in the Dovrian Plains, mostly on the edges of the Western Woods and the Hephaestan Ridge.
The origin of purple worms is unknown. Draconologists and monstrologists have theorized that their evolution was influenced by Tiamat, citing the alchemical similarity of their poison to that of the most potent poisonous dragons, such as the Leafwyrm.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Purple worms are segmented invertebrates that grow to enormous sizes. They burrow easily through the dirt with their huge jaws, which have two rows of teeth at birth and eventually grow up to eight rows. They have a large stinger on the ends of their tails, through which they can deliver a powerful poison that incapacitates all but the largest and toughest prey.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Purple worms are indiscriminate hunters. Any creature they can fit into their mouths, from bison and horses to Humanoids and Bankhurim, is fair game as prey. Their powerful stomach acid dissolves hide, thick fur, and even metal armor and weapons. They also consume dirt in the process of burrowing, though they gain little nutritional value from this, besides from the prairie dogs and other small burrowing animals caught in their path and swallowed whole.
Additional Information
Uses, Products & Exploitation
The poison of a purple worm's stinger can be collected shortly after their death and distilled into one of the most potent poisons known to man, capable of killing most people instantly. Powerful healing magic is required to negate its effects. The only more potent poisons are that of the green dragon and the leafwyrm.
"I've built up my tolerance to most poisons, don't get me wrong. I'm not a fucking idiot. Purple worm poison, though? Worst one I've ever experienced, hands down. Burns like a motherfucker. Must've thrown up two, three times from the pain. Thought I was gonna go blind. Still have the scar from it, and a nasty one, too. It's a damn good thing that shit is rare."

Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Purple worms can sense the footsteps of a medium-to-large creature from up to sixty feet away. They have a keen sense of their environments via hearing and touch, despite their lack of eyes.
