Chapel Machmorran
Chapel Machmorran is an ancient ruined temple outside Machmorrainas, on Isle Machmorraig. It is one of the oldest buildings in the Aquatic Kingdoms, and one of the oldest surviving structures likely built by humans. It is believed to date back to the early Age of Anxiety, though some scholars speculate that it stems from the Age of Audacity and may even predate the elves.
Chapel Machmorran sits inside an ancient graveyard, on which it was partially built. Its alignment with the Astral Plane and certain symbology found buried in the ancient graves suggest it was initially a temple to Gaia.
The gravestones and several other weathered ceremonial slabs contain a strange language scholars refer to as Ragvik, thought to be one of the lost pre-Common Human languages. No examples of Ragvik have yet been found outside of Isle Machmorraig. Several frekhologists have noted its resemblance to Infernal.
The ruins of Chapel Machmorran are one of several clues on Isle Machmorraig that point to the island once being much more populous than it currently is. The footprints of an ancient village surround it, though no other clear structures remain; archaeologists suspect that the chapel's status as consecrated ground kept it relatively safer than its surroundings. Jewelry of metals and precious stones not naturally found on the island has been discovered in these ruins, suggesting either ancient history of trade or the treasure hoard of a creature with a wide hunting range, such as an ancient dragon.
