The Laws of Ohm
Magic
There is magic in the world of Ohm. It is often channeled into magitech but can also be used in its raw form as spells, blasts, and incantations.
Some academies in Eiriel may teach students how to unlock and enhance psionic abilities. (Bri was rejected from one such school, which partially led her to create her own contraptions as an alternative.)
Deities In The Stars
There are 22 gods revered in Ohm, loosely based on the Major Arcana cards in the classic tarot deck. They live in the stars, but their spirits may wander the world. Rumors exist that the Crown may be the 23rd god, but this is highly controversial.
Cosmology
The world formed when four balls of energy, one of fire, one of ice, one of earth, and one of electricity, collided in a grand explosion of every color in the rainbow. The resulting collision birthed the gods through the stars, and they created the planet on which Ohm resides.
Principal Geography & Features
The world of Ohm is very bio-diverse. There are arid deserts, dragon-inhabited volcanic lands, mysterious forests, dense jungles, treacherous cliffs, rocky canyons, islands (both floating and in the sea), towering mountains, cryptic cave systems, mystical springs and waterfalls, and more! From tropical paradise to dangerous wastelands, there's plenty to explore in Ohm.
See other sections of the meta for more details!
As previously mentioned, and as a general summary:
- Muha's geography is earth-focused; think rocky canyons, cryptic cave systems, earthy fields, clay-baked village huts, and red-soil farmlands. This is the southern region of Lower Ohm.
- Saram's geography is water-focused; think tropical beaches, mystical coves, icy catacombs, juicy orange groves, and rushing waterfalls. This is the western region of Lower Ohm.
- Plessium's geography is fire-focused; think arid deserts, scorching volcanic ranges, settlements from oases to hot hot mining towns, and fiery dragonlands. This is the eastern region of Lower Ohm.
- Hatan's geography is air-focused; think towering mountains, cool breezes (or even windstorms), villages above the clouds, and floating islands connected via woven or chiseled bridges and staircases. This is the center region of Lower Ohm.
- Thoril's geography is electricity-focused; think big-ass cities, with innovations in technology, transport, architecture, lights, so on and so forth, as they harness the powers of magitech to transform the landscape into man-made structures; thunderstorms are also common. This is a large island connected to Lower Ohm via a huuuuuge bridge, the Throat of the World (or some similar/better name).
- Eiriel's geography is aether-based; think marble-lined streets with greco-roman styled architecture, temples, churches, mage colleges; peaceful monk seclusions surrounded by flora; and a grand staircase leading to the Crown Citadel in the sky, where the beguiling night sky, flooded with stars, is crystal-clear for all to see, and stardust rains down upon the majestic capital of Ohm. This is the northernmost part of all Ohm, reachable by boat from Thoril to the south.
Although the regions may vary significantly in geography and climate, they remain interconnected. An elven forager wandering through Sarami orange groves may find themselves in the enchanted woods at the base of Mt. Hatan. An orcish miner tunneling through Muhari cave systems may notice the caves getting warmer and warmer until they emerge in a Plessian mining town on the surface.
Initial Active Setting
Ohm is a kingdom comprised of six primary regions that make up its lands. The main continent, or Lower Ohm, contains Muha, Saram, Plessium, and Hatan. Hatan rests on a huge mountain in the center of the continent, surrounded by Saram to the west, Plessium to the east, and Muha to the south.
A massive bridge connects Lower Ohm to the City of Thoril, a gigantic megalopolis sitting on its own landmass. North of Thoril is the island of Eiriel, the capital of Ohm. At the northernmost point of Ohm, a grand staircase leads to the Crown Citadel in the sky.
Far west of Saram is an island known as the Isle of Winters (temporary title). Sirens are native to the icy caverns of this place. Frost dragons, field explorers scavenging for resources, and hermit wizards practicing in solitude can also be found amongst its snow-capped mountains. The Isle of Song is not a part of Ohm but an unclaimed territory.
