The Kingdom of Adiril

Power in Dramari and beyond

The Kingdom of Adiril is an imperial nation, consisting of its main homeland in the Mirillian Fields and Worrial Highlands, as well as several island colonies/holdings.
The Kingdom is headed by the Royal House of Shol, a line stretching back to the days when Arkerzun had a Misoren Governer. The Adirilians are a rising power on Dramari, and consistantly meddling in the affairs of the other Dramari nations. Yeltorn in particular is a rival of the Adirilians, though tensions have eased since they fought on the same side in the Central Dramari War in 551 AS.
The Kingdom

Structure

The King is the head of the kingdom and has a set of appointed advisors called The Council of Adiril who do a lot of the ruling in the Kingdom of Adiril. The Council is organized as such:
  • The Master of Coin - the financial advisor to the king is responsible for keeping the coin flowing to the crown and distributing that coin effectively throughout the kingdom. Generally held by House Whisperwood.
  • The Grand Admiral - The head of the Royal Navy in Adiril. The Admiral works closely with the marshal to ensure proper military execution. Generally held my House Saltsea.
  • The Marshal of the Realm - The head of the armies of the state, second only to the King. The Marshal commands armies, plans campaigns, directs sieges, and other war duties. During peacetime, the Marshal trains and maintains the army of the realm. Generally held by House Greatwoods.
  • The Hand to the King/Queen - The direct advisor of the King, the lawful executor of the King's will, and the second most powerful person in Adiril. The Hand is the representative of the King on the Council and can usurp and other members' authority in their domains. Generally, this position is not held by a particular house, but a close friend of the ruling family, or in many cases, a member of that family.
  • The Archmage - This is an advisor of magic to the crown and a direct representative of the Tower of Mages.
  • The Minister of Churches - While not a cleric to a specific deity, the Minister of Churches (the Minister) keeps an eye on the different factions in the church district of Adiril City and advocates for the different church leaders within that district.
  • The Spymaster - the leader of the intelligence agency of the Adirilian Government, The Autumn Order. Also not House-bound, this member is generally the most respected member of the Order.
  • The Lawmaster - A smaller council seat, this council member coordinates law and order in the Kingdom, and the Azure Guard is under his jurisdiction, as well as courts and prisons.

Culture

Adirilian Culture closely resembles the culture of the now-fallen Misoren empire, the nation that originally founded the Colony of Adiril. Adirilian Citizens are generally devout, and Adirilian culture has a mean militarist streak. While ruled by a King, most things that happen in the Kingdom are passed down from other sources, and the Adirilian Council does its best to keep a king in check.

Public Agenda

The Kingdom of Adiril is devoted to expansion and the promotion of "Adirilian values"

History

Inheritors of an Empire

The Misoren Empire once spanned the Entirety of its namesake continent and parts of several other landmasses, like Dramari and the The Obynaan Islands . During and after The Scism many of these Imperial holdings rebelled and declared independence, with the Kingdom of Adiril being one of the bigger, more powerful nations born of the Empire's demise. Adiril (then called New Misore) was a very wealthy colony, and when some of the nobility that controlled those resources decided to rebel, the Misorens were expunged and the Kingdom was born. The colony originally broke into two kingdoms, Adiril and Frisola, Adiril was founded by Hildemar Shol, and Frisola was founded by his top (rebellious) general Erhart Friso. The Kingdom of Frisola only existed in any major way for about 8 years and was reabsorbed into Adiril at the end of the Mirillian Conflicts. Empire loyalists still neighbored the Kingdom until the establishment of the Nation of Yeltorn, who claimed to be the direct descendants of the Misoren Empire and incorporated all of the remaining Imperial remnants into itself.

The Mirillian Conflicts

The Shortsword Rebellion was the war of Adirilian independence. Hildemar Shol, governor of Arkerzun, declared himself the King of the Mirillian Fields, and took over Fort Ernmore, solidifying his position in Arkerzun. Shol and his general, Erhart Friso, split the armies of Arkerzun and its surrounding areas into two groups - The Frisos and the Shols - who each led different campaigns in the war against the Misorens. The Shols attacked and captured Lakeshore, Kersaw, Hazelcrest, Ribile, and Elmsford. The Frisos captured Vanra's Grove (Then called Vecca) Moraest  (Then called Frisa), Keraa, Edeku, Bastil, and Alukda. At the time of the surrender, General Friso ordered his men to arrest Hildemar Shol, and attempted to take the crown for himself. Hildemar Shol was not successfully arrested, and once General Friso fled, he declared himself King of "Frisola", which would encompass all of the Friso-controlled lands.   The First Adirilian Civil war then ensued, before the Kingdom was even known as the Kingdom of Adiril. The Mirillian Kingdom, over eight years, captured the rest of the Mirillian Fields. During the final battle of the war, the Capture of Frisa, the tired, morally low army of the Shols, prayed to the God of War and Order - Adir. It is said that the weary soldiers suddenly had bright, searing symbols of Adir on their breastplates and helmets, and were invigorated with the spirit to fight, and for some, divine magic. These new Warriors of Adir captured the city of Moraest and defeated the Frisos. They were unsuccessful in locating Erhart Friso, however.

Territories

The Adirilian Kingdom is the sovereign state over the Mirillian fields, the Northern forest, some northern parts of the Melisal Desert, and the Yellows.   It controls several territories

Military

The Kingdom of Adiril has several components to its Military.
  • The Adirilian Navy (Sea/River), the main branch of the Military that controls the Nation's waterways.

Order - Honor - Faith

The Adirilian Empire has its Dramari holdings but also has several off-shore colonies that fall under the jurisdiction of the empire.
  1. The Southern Ekiran Colony- The largest colony of the Adirilian Empire by far. the Ekiran Colony is the only colony not established by force, as the Vedalken of Ekira seceded from the Pothis Holy Nation of their own accord, and petitioned the Adirilian King to make them part of the Grand Empire. The colony is generally left alone, and treated as a separate entity in terms of trade and influence. Constant skirmishes with the Pothis in recent years have led to an increased Azure Guard presence, though.
  2. The Shattered Tower - An almost independent colony off the Eastern coast of Dramari, the Shattered tower only has three cities on its islands. Those cities are very large, however, all almost the size of Arkerzun itself on their islands. Mostly populated by human sailors and Sea Elf merchants, the Broken Tower sits as a checkpoint on the trade routes to Southern Misore
  3. The Obynaan Isles - The most recent holding to the Kingdom, the Obynaan Isles were invaded after the Death of Princess Suria Shol at sea. These islands are named after the Draconic God Obyn and are populated mainly by Dragonborn, though its capital city, Boroshii, is much less homogenous.
  4. Technically, the Druid Island of Kii is an Adirilian holding. Kii was once the home of a massive city that worshipped Aleksanteri, God of nature, and druids. The Druidic Genocide nearly wiped the City of Kii and all of its inhabitants out, as well as killed their Divine Tree, the Kiisanra. While the Druidic Genocide was not Adiril's doing, the Tower of Mages gifted the territory ceded from the Kii to the Adirilian Crown. This is a point of shame for many Adirilians, especially those in Vanra's Grove, many of whom were attacked during the Druidic Genocide.
