History
Hundreds of years ago, when the Kingdom of Adiril and The Elves of the Melisal Desert were still warring factions, the Elves set a boundary a few miles into their territory. Any Adirilian who crossed that boundary died. Many Adirilian Kings thought of this as a challenge and attempted invasions of the Melisal Desert. None of those Kings survived. This boundary was marked at a monument known as the "Pillar of Retribution." A stone obelisk with minimalist carvings save for an engraving at the bottom of each of its four sides that reads "The Graveyard of Human Kings." Pressed into the sides of the obelisk were real human skulls from failed invasions. Some still had their military helmets. The last invasion into the Melisal Desert was a semi-success, with the first Human victory in the long history of fighting. At the end of the battle, the Adirilian Crown Prince (The King died in battle) declared in his victory speech that there would be a "Grand city erected in this grim valley" and several months later construction on the first village in the valley began.
After about three decades, relations began to normalize, as the Elven government began to open itself up more to outsiders, and the village became a major trade hub between the nations.
Originally known as "the Village of the Valley" it became known as 'The Grim Valley Village" and eventually just "The City of Grimvalley".
