Nicholas Wolfrick

"Let me say this commander, whilst all four of the brothers are rash almost to point of having no regard for their own safety. Nick has a raw intelligence that goes along with it."

Nicholas Arthur Wolfrick (a.k.a. Nick)

Nick Wolfrick is a minor character in Oblivion 1. A recurring character in Oblivion 2. And a main character in Oblivion 3, 4, 5 and 6.   Nick has two older brothers; Jack and Dave. And one younger brother; Martin. And is six-years-old when Dmitri first arrives at the manor.     Backstory   Nick was born the third son of Alan and Laura Wolfrick in 2653 AS. Things did not get off to a good start for Nick, as fears soon arouse that he had Tenuis Sanguis, a rare disease that thinned the blood, and prevented wounds from clotting properly. As when the umbilical cord was cut, the bleeding wouldn't stop. After many tests were conducted, the news was as the family feared, and that Nick had indeed inherited the disease. The question now was, which type.   A close eye was kept on Nick from that point on, to the point that he was followed almost constantly around by a private doctor. Hired specifically for the boy's safety and well being. However, Nick was still a young kid, and didn't understand that this was all happening to keep him safe. And at the age of three, with the manor unaware of what type of the disease that he had. Nick, whilst playing with his brothers, fell down the stairs.   Screaming from the pain, Nick had to be carried to the manor's medical station. His temperature rose and his heart rate decreased. For five days, his private doctor did everything possible to keep Nick's vitals under control. Whilst Alan would spend much of his time sitting with his ill son, but also that he rushed to his private study, where the sounds of weeping could be heard. On the sixth day, Nick began to show signs of recovery, and two days later he was strong enough to leave the medic room. But these events further cast fears that Nick had the type 'A' variant of the disease. It wasn't until at the age of six (the minimum age that the test can be done), that the family found out that Nick had the type 'B' variant, and chalked up this incident as his young age making the whole ordeal more painful.   At an early age, Nick was seen to be more bookish than his two older brothers, with the lad having read almost every book that was in the manor's modest library. This seemed to confirm that young Nick's intelligence far outstripped any of the tutors that came to manor to teach the brothers as was custom for their early years. Word of this soon made way to The Imperial College, and the professors there resolved to keep their eyes on this potential prodigy.   Like his older brothers however, due to his father's absence, he grew close to his mother, but unlike both Jack and Dave, he has little memories of her, as when he was only two, she died a few days after giving birth to his younger brother. Meaning that young Nick grew even more closer to his Uncle Gerrard, and the family butler, Vernon, more so than either of his two older brothers did.     Story   Oblivion I:   Nick is present when Vernon returns to the manor with Dmitri in tow, and is frightened of the former captain from the first. Having read about the stranger after overhearing his father and Vernon talking about bringing Dmitri to the manor.   After a stranger breaks into Martin's room in the dead of night, unbeknownst to the adults, Nick overhears them discuss what had transpires, and becomes even more afraid when he overhears that the intruder may return.   Once more overhearing a discussion about the Elemental Gems, Nick gets tired at being kept in the dark, and decides to research the items further. Only stopping after Vernon discovers his studying, and being forced to give the old butler his word that he would cease all activity about the items.   It doesn't take Nick long to find a new outlet to his curiosity however, as he becomes intrigued into what is happening with his younger brother, and turns his already vast knowledge onto trying to find out why someone would want to kidnap Martin. Although doing so unbeknownst to the others.     Oblivion II:       Oblivion III:         Oblivion IV:         Oblivion V:         Oblivion VI:       Powers/Abilities
  • Genius Intelligent: For someone his age, Nick already displays an extremely high level of intelligence, knowledge and understanding. He has also shown an eidetic memory, being able to take one glance at a very complex information and instantaneously memorise it without forgetting it. Even Charlie commented on Nick's wisdom and higher intelligence, despite being so young. Given his young age, his already impressive intelligence, and has yet to fully develop and mature.
  • Innate Linguistic Knowledge: Nick has an almost supernatural talent to understand both written, and spoken languages he has never heard of or read before. He explains it to Bruce as he may only be able to read a few words and letters but is usually enough to get what the sentence is trying to say.
  Weapons/Items
  • Stormtooth: Nick is the last owner of the pistol Stormtooth, a pistol with a wolf's tooth grip, that has been in his family for over two-hundred years. The gun was given to him by Charlie, who saved it from the manor when The Shadow attacked, and gave it to Nick when they were training together. The weapon is later buried with him in The Hall of Heroes.
Personality   Nick is a bright young man who spent most of his time reading different books that further expand his knowledge. By his own admission, he greatly enjoyed reading about wild adventures from the age of heroes, which gave him a more romanticised view on the old times of the Imperial Emperors, and his remarks whilst out hunting with Dave suggest he looked up to the likes of the legendary warrior Philp Godfrey, and the great sorcerer Vagast of Bartazar. His love for books and stories prompted him to aspire to become a writer or a scholar, which his father and Vernon partly approved, as they also privately wished for him to take control of the company.   At times, Nick would appear to be somewhat timid and was often mild-mannered when speaking to his family or friends. Although this only hid his private sense of inferiority when compared to his father Alan, a veteran of the Imperial-Bartazar War, as well as his older brothers Jack and Dave, who were an experienced marksman and hunter respectively. This led Nick to feel insecure and frightful whenever Alan, or his brothers approached him and made him all the more desperate to prove his worth to both his family and himself.   Despite this, Nick shared a very close bond with his family. And he cared deeply for his younger brother Martin, who he worried about regarding Martin's emerging powers. He was also the only member of the Wolfrick family who seemed to be in a constant positive relationship with both Dmitri and Charlie, who taught him several inappropriate things much to Vernon's disapproval.       Family Tree:

Education

Like most of the rich of The Imperial City. Nick's early education was handled by a private tutor, who instructed the boy on the basics. But, said tutor quickly realised that young Nick was at a level that most scholars of The Imperial Academy were studying at, and more importantly, was learning about these topics on his own.   With this fact in mind, the tutor sent word to The Imperial Academy, who had also been keeping a quiet eye on the Nick for some time. And told them of his findings. A member was then dispatched, to inform Nick that he had been accepted into the college. Not just that thought, his tutor had insisted that the school take him in four years earlier than they usually would. It took a while, but the elderly and conservative members agreed to do so.   However, the gods had other plans, and before Nick could enrol that autumn. War came to the Imperial heartlands by way of The Shadow, bringing an end to Nick's education.

Virtues & Personality perks

History

Whilst the two youngest Wolfrick brothers may seem apart, with Nick spending most of their early years either locked in his room or in the Wolfrick library, there is a great respect between them during times of hardship. This is shown most notably when Martin is kidnapped and Nick is desperate to go and look for his younger brother.
