Martin Wolfrick

"Which left Martin, who was the wild card in this situation, he would follow wherever his older brothers went."

Martin Philp Wolfrick (a.k.a. Sparky, Shadowbane, Sere of the North)

Martin Wolfrick is a minor character in Oblivion 1. A recurring character in Oblivion 2, 3 and 4. And a main character in Oblivion 5 and 6.   Martin has three older brothers; Jack, Dave and Nick. And is four-years-old when Dmitri arrives at the manor.   Backstory   Martin Wolfrick was born the forth and youngest son of Alan and Laura Wolfrick in 2655 AS. Martin's birth was not an easy one and ultimately resulted in the death of his mother Laura Wolfrick a few days after he was born.   During Martin's early years, things started to happen. Doors would suddenly close without the wind, and objects would shake slightly. These events were initially ignored by the likes of both Vernon and Gerrard. But they both came to understand that they happened whenever Martin was angry, or scared. As such, the decision was made to keep the youngest Wolfrick out of the public eye until he was older and perhaps able to control his mood a lot more.   Whilst this may have helped in the moment, it had the effect of isolating Martin, and making him much more introverted than any of his brothers. This lack of human contact meant that Martin grew closest to Echo, the family dog, who seemed to take to Martin more than anyone else. So much so, that it was often said that it was Echo that raised Martin.     Story     Oblivion I:   Martin is first seen when Dmitri is brought to manor after completing a job for Alan Wolfrick, due to his young age, he is confused about why this stranger was in his home.   During his down time, Martin spends a lot of time with Echo. The family husky, and grows more and more attached to the dog, as his father and older brothers spend less and less time with him. Which later on causes concern for Vernon, who wonders whether the husky was the one raising Martin, and what effect this might have. This attachment does help, as when a man calling himself Mr Smith arrives at the manor, claiming to want to see Alan, but whose real attention is to get Martin alone, Echo was there for the him until Vernon could see away the potential intruder.   Not that this stops Mr Smith, as later that night, he breaks into Martin's room, but is stopped when Martin wakes up the entire manor with his shouts. Afterwards Martin often spends the nights with his father, or his brothers, fearing that the stranger may come back. Only returning to his own room when Echo is with him.   After Alan returns from his failed mission at Lord Boris' fortress, Martin doesn't understand why his father keeps going away, which further leads the child down a darker path, whilst his attempts to get answers from both his older brother Jack, and the butler Vernon come to nothing. Causing Martin to slide further down an isolated path.     Oblivion II:   When Dave shows the newly arrived Mia around the manor, they come across Martin and Echo, the pair having been outside together. When the husky approaches Mia however, Dave asks Martin to call the animal off. Which the now five-year-old Martin does.   When Alan initially refuses to go along with Mayor Osmund's requests, Martin along with the rest of his family are used to blackmail Alan into compliance, after The Mayor threatened to make all of them undesirables.   When most of the manor residence's go down south to join the war effort against Lord Boris and The Iron Company. Martin completely goes off the rails. Becoming angry and volatile at the news that he was being abandoned. Before taking refuge; along with Echo in the crypts, attacking anyone that came near him. It was only after Jack came down into the tombs and was able to calm Martin down that he agrees to leave the tombs. After which, Martin locked himself in his room with Echo and refused to come out. It was this action that first alerted Nick, to the strange connection between his younger brother and Echo. To the point where he had heard Martin seemingly having conversations with the animal.   After the manor is empty, Nick overhears one of these conversations and goes to confront Martin about it. However when he was discovered Echo leaps onto him and Martin demands that he leave him alone. As well as claiming that people think that he's crazy.   During the attack on the manor, Vernon sends both Nick and Martin into the cave for protection, along with a few Bot's to guard them. Neither boy takes part in the battle.   After the battle, and Alan's slide into merciless revenge against those that attacked his home, Charlie uses the excuse that it wasn't good for Martin to see the bodies hanging from the walls of the manor. Which does get Alan to stop on the treatment of the prisoners.   Martin along with the rest of his family, and Codsworth, were present when Jack woke up out of his coma, although it is unclear whether Jack remembered his youngest brother initially.   Martin also witnesses one of Jack's visions, although is angered when Jack thinks that he is a lunatic, causing Echo to become hostile, only relenting when Martin called the dog off.     Oblivion III:   After Alan leaves for the north, a now six-year-old Martin doesn't understand why his father has left again. As well as the tension between Vernon and Dave.   Martin spends a lot of time hold up in his room, only exiting when he wants to sleep with his oldest brother Jack, who whilst reluctant allows for this to happen.   When Dave and Nick go out on their scouting mission, unbeknownst to them, Martin follows along, and witnesses the attack on his older brothers. Martin runs back to the manor to inform Vernon and Charlie what had just happened and agrees to lead Charlie to the sight of the attack. When they get there, Martin gets fed up of his older brother not waking up, so he slaps Dave across the face to speed up the process.   Six months after Alan left for the north, both Nick and Martin get visions of their father telling them to meet him in the crypts. But when they go down, they find the tomb empty. Leading Martin to become rash, and attack Vernon when he goes down to find them.   When what is left of The Iron Company come to fortify the manor, they attempt to cut down a tree that was planted by Laura Wolfrick, causing an altercation between Martin and three mercenaries, only stopped when Jack and Dave come to defuse the situation, and take Martin's side and order the tree remain up.   When the dead arrive at the manor, Martin, along with his older brothers and Deryn, stay inside the manor, with Martin being the most distressed due to Echo not being with him. This plan to keep the children safe works, until The Shadow, sends a ball of fire crashing into the manor. Nick has to lie to Martin in order to get him to move after the fireball hit, and the pair escape the rapidly crumbling room with the help of Deryn, although the elderly scientist dies in the attempt.   Martin does not witness the death of his father, but he is around for the aftermath when he sees Jack take out his rage on Dmitri. Afterwards Martin, along with the other survivors go back into the manor, to plan their next move.     Oblivion IV:   After the fall of the manor, and the death of his father, Martin becomes more and more wild and angry at the adult members of the group, in particular when he finds out that Dmitri knew about Brutus before the wear-bear was hunting them. Although he is more timid with Brutus than he is with the rest of the group.   During the trip across The Snow Mountains, Martin had to be carried for most of it by Jack, due to problems with the weather.   When the group arrive at Bergskort, Martin is pleased with the new accommodations and is quick to start exploring his new home, despite the fact he has to share a room with Nick. After his older brother goes to find Jack in The Mountain Base Inn. Martin fails to cover up this fact when Vernon questions him on his brothers location. Whilst Codsworth goes out searching, Dave and Martin bet on whether Jack would make a bigger fool out of himself. A bet that Martin looses.   During their time at Bergskort, all four of the Wolfrick brother's hair grows out, although Martin grows the longest of all, making the now seven-year-old Martin's acts of wildness, even greater to behold. As Dave and Nick scheme to get Jack with Erika, Martin hears of these plans and successfully blackmails his older brother into letting him join their plan. Although the brother's disagree about letting Martin drink with them. Martin was also present the following morning when Jack was questioned for his previous night location.   With the winter passing, Vernon begins to guess as to who would be most likely to accompany them the rest of the way north, although he was unsure about what Martin would do, describing him as a wild card. These plans are changed however, once Brutus arrives and causes a scene, forcing all but Jack to vacate the town as soon as possible. The act of his eldest brother's remaining behind was enough to send Martin over the edge, until Jack was once more able to calm him down and convince Martin to leave him behind.   During the travel north from Bergskort to Normanguard the group is set upon by a hoard and Martin is separated and told to run into the nearby woods by Codsworth, however when the rest of the group go to look for him he is nowhere to be found. As Martin is captured and taken to a re-education camp run by Eugene Fitzfurgel and is not seen until the following story.     Oblivion V:   During Martin's time as a prisoner at the re-education camp, his head is shaved and he is forced to watch propaganda videos about The Shadow. However due to Martin's wildness he ends ups in frequent trouble causing him to be beaten, shocked and drugged repeatedly by the guards and is often made an example of to the others inside the camp.   It is during his imprisonment that Martin meets Olly and Russel and after eight months spent at Broken Mountain Institute, they meet Jeanie, with the four inmates forming a tight knit group in order to survive.   After being discovered in trying to escape, Martin is tortured for information. First by the camp Doctor, and then by Eugene Fitzfurgel himself, who also demands information on Jack's location in Bergskort, which Martin unwilling gives him. After which he is heavily drugged and transferred to a solitary cell bellow the camp and left to starve to death.   During the recuse mission led by Codsworth and Lord Doraghek Kazburn, it takes them longer than expected to find Martin. By the time Codsworth and Dave find Martin he is so starved that Dave is able to cary him back to the evac chopper without any help. The survivors are taken straight back to the mountain where Charlie takes Martin straight to the medical station revealing that Martin had been so heavily drugged it was a miracle that he was still alive. Because of Charlie's and the medics efforts Martin was able to recover, although he is still shaken by the events of the past several months and it takes many weeks for him to get up the courage to leave the medical centre.   A few months after the rescue mission Martin and Nick are training outside the mountain under the supervision of Vernon and Charlie, when a mountain wolf attacks the small group, only stopping after Jack puts a bullet through the wolfs' neck. At the sight of his oldest brother Martin runs up and hugs him.   Oblivion VI:       After the Story:   After the final battle, a now ten-year-old Martin returns with his older brother, Jack to the ruins of Wolfrick Manor, and remains there whilst his old home is rebuilt. As the years advanced, and Martin enters his teenage years, he begins to mentally struggle with everything that had happened during his young life, in particular his time at Broken Mountain Institute, which he had never truly gotten over. However, when he tries to speak to both Jack and Dave about his problems, neither brother is able to help.   In desperation Martin turns to the two people he thinks can help him; Olly Stacks and Jeanie Quincy. Where he finds comfort with them, this relationship with his two friends develops further, to the point that he becomes attracted to both of them and as he reaches adulthood, he begins to spend romantic time with both of them.   Just as Martin was beginning to rebuild his life, another shock would knock him down, with the death of Vernon, a figure who had been a father figure throughout his life.   During the time of his older brother's expedition into the eastern territories, Martin spent most of his time in the north, where he spent the time wandering the landscape. Trying to get answers to everything that had happened in his life.       Powers/Abilities
  • Superhuman Senses:
  • Precognition:
  • Visions:
  • Telepathy: The power to influence what other see. Although unintended by Eugene Fitzfurgel, Martin power extends far beyond being the victim. He is now capable of reversing the spell back on his tormentor, making Martin one of, if not the most powerful players in the war against The Shadow.
  • Anicom: Martin has the ability to communicate with animals, specifically Echo, the family husky. Although both his family and Vernon try to keep it under wraps, as the gift has a massive stigma around it. Vernon suspects that it is this specific ability that allowed Martin to reverse the telepathic hold that Eugene had over him.
  • Telekinesis: Martin has shown that he has the power to move objects without touching them, mainly when he is angry, or scared. Doors will close around him, and objects will begin to vibrate around him when these emotions occur.
  • Shadowbane: After meeting with The All Powerful Seven, Martin's powers are both enhanced and increased.
  • -Superhuman Strength: Whilst not as strong as the gods may have wanted, Martin strength is maxed out to the point he can lift steel rebars with little effort, as well as break holes in the walls of The Iron Tooth fortress.
-Superhuman Stamina: Martin is shown to have battled The Shadow one on one without showing any signs of physical exhaustion.
-Erasure: Martin uses this power to remove The Shadow from existence, so that the monster may never return.
-Reality Warping: An enhancement of his telepathy, Martin is able to bend reality to his will, crossing the boundaries of both time and space. Create and Destroy matter with a thought. And turn his desires into reality.

History

Whilst the two youngest Wolfrick brothers may seem apart, with Nick spending most of their early years either locked in his room or in the Wolfrick library, there is a great respect between them during times of hardship. This is shown most notably when Martin is kidnapped and Nick is desperate to go and look for his younger brother.
