Torwall's Patron Character in Oa | World Anvil

Torwall's Patron

Identified by Sister Janet as a Glabrezu demon, this entity granted Torwall Ignus the ability to channel his infernal essence, resulting in Torwall's decades of exploits as a warlock of significant and gathering strength.

Encounter at the Lamplight

On 18th Winterfall 866WA, at the Lamplight Inn, he met with Beulah Garland and a very convincingly disguised Cherry Merrybottom (with Peaseblossom in tow). He indicated his interest in obtaining the IOU The Ladies' Hiking Club had secured at The Purple Peach and traded to Mote for Peaseblossom's services.   When Beulah protested that the request would require interplanar travel, he seemed to look over at Cherry's shoulder and to state flatly that they had a direct means of communication. When she requested compensation for the task, he advised her that she had been using eldritch powers sourced from him and taught to her by Torwall for years. If anything, he suggested, this was only the beginning of her repaying her debt to him.   In the course of their conversation, he indicated that they had met before but that he had been "in" one of her colleagues (presumably Torwall or Lucida Baldelli) at the time; and further advised that he had waited this long to make contact because he did not wish Vega Spritzer to be part of the conversation.   Beulah was given three days to make contact with the Seelie Court in regards to this request.

Secondary Request

Torwall's patron also made a request to obtain the Faerie IOU in Tarts McGillicuddy's possession. He noted that this request was not as urgent as the other one, and that considerable compensation could be made available for the provision of this item.

Conflict with Vega Spritzer

Vindicated in his reluctance to deal with the death-cultist-turned-nature-cleric, Torwall's Patron was attacked by Vega Spritzer on 19th Winterfall, 866WA while he was posing as a supplicant in Sister Janet's chapel. This occurred shortly after he overheard Clytemnestra and Vega discussing Violet Verihendrion Miller and her relationship to the former. He easily withstood the assault by Spritzer, Beulah and Fanny and telekinetically dropped a stunned Spritzer some 200 feet into a demiplane adjacent to Hell. He indicated to Beulah that Vega was a form of collateral to ensure that she took action on the demanded IOU within the next two days. Unbeknownst to the Glabrezu, Spritzer escaped the demiplane after making a deal with Reex, Second Lord of the Stygian Well.

Powers and Abilities

As a Glabrezu demon, Torwall's Patron is in the second tier of demons in Pandaemonium,1 taking his place among the most powerful demons that were not hand-crafted by the gods. He is, as the droz-ohn'ka might say in an unguarded moment, a spicy meatball.   Casting Wish For Mortal Petitioners   Vega knows through her extensive training that Glabrezu have the ability, unique among demons, to cast Wish; but they are cursed never to use it for themselves. Instead, they pervert this gift and use it only for evil. There have been enough instances of the following occurrence that the Kindly Ones believe it to be a universal code among these demons: they will indeed grant a mortal a Wish in exchange for either an act of unspeakable evil or the possession of an uncorrupted soul, and even then only if they foresee that the result will bring nothing but further chaos and hardship to the denizens of the surface world.

Boss Fight Scouting Report

Torwall's Patron has so far demonstrated significant telekinetic ability, the ability to cast Power Word: Stun and Demiplane, the ability to cast two spells in a single round, a resistance to physical damage, lengthy talons and an ability to shapeshift into convincing disguises (though Vega determined a weakness of his appearing to be an inability to disguise his shadow). He is presumably also capable of generating superlative Eldritch Blasts. He appears to have normal vulnerability to psychic, magical and acid damage.   1.  Note: Pandaemonium in Oa is distinct from the standard Fifth Edition plane called "Pandemonium".  The Oan Pandaemonium is a physical location: the capital city of the Infernal Plane, with a heavily enchanted exit opening on to the Throat north of Templeborne.  It is the most common escape point for demons and devils from the lower reaches of Hell (i.e., the Infernal Plane and the Nine Hells) into the surface world.
