Peaseblossom
An elderly faerie dragon of some standing in the Seelie Court, Peaseblossom administered the Test of Amity during The Ladies' Hiking Club's sojourn into the Feywild. When Beulah Garland requested an ambassador to the Seelie Court in exchange for the demonic IOU they obtained at The Purple Peach, Mote and their consort Thistle appeared to put the question to the assembled fey, turning down an excitable youngster in favour of the more seasoned volunteer.
Since that time, Peaseblossom has travelled with The Ladies' Hiking Club as their ambassador to the Feywild and general sidekick.
Peaseblossom is generally kindly and modest, though she can take being underestimated somewhat personally. Although gender is an unfamiliar concept to faerie dragons, in solidarity with her new friends Peaseblossom has adopted female pronouns.
Peaseblossom's only worldly possessions are a leather chew toy provided by Cherry Merrybottom as the group left the feast at Blackacre (which she likes very much) and a gold-and-ruby earring she wears as a necklace, acquired in Wakecrest (about which she is still deciding, it is kind of uncomfortable).
Peaseblossom has only once indicated any knowledge of, or sensitivity about, Fey affairs in the mortal realm. When Cherry was accused by the rest of the Hiking Club of having some kind of magical influence, either Fey or Demonic, Peaseblossom rushed to her defence with a not-at-all-convincing argument that her "luck" could not possibly have a Fey origin.
Events at the Wandering City
Peaseblossom earned her keep easily when the ladies arrived at the Wandering City, serving as a surveillance team over Thalia Overmere and Violet Verihendrion Miller and pilfering a letter from Overmere's room at The Scarlet Squid Public House. Hesitant about the dense population of the city, Peaseblossom largely kept close to Cherry, nattering on about hypotheticals and penny philosophy and the two generally carried on becoming chums. Beulah and Cherry encountered Torwall's Patron at The Lamplight Inn, and the latter demanded that Beulah send a message to the Seelie Court in order to negotiate for the return of the IOU the ladies had traded to Mote in exchange for Peaseblossom's service. In saying this, he stared directly at an invisible Peaseblossom, indicating that he knew they had a direct line of communication. Peaseblossom was even more hesitant about this prospect, as it seemed to imply that she would have to separate from the rest of the team (even if it was strictly her job as emissary) as well as the possibility of being stranded at sea if there happened to be no parallel Zaratan in the Feywild's South Sea after she crossed over. On the 19th of Winterfall, 866WA, Peaseblossom accompanied Beulah and Cherry on an exploration of the Portside Sewer. A fight broke out with some lurking Gelatinous Cubes, and her attempts at contributing to the fight failed miserably. At one point, when Beulah was fully engulfed by a cube and on the brink of death, Cherry tried to leap upon that cube to wrestle her out. She was knocked sideways by another cube's attack of opportunity, and the moment before she struck the water a thunderclap sounded and all three of Beulah, Cherry and Peaseblossom were gone. Peaseblossom awoke far away, in a dark place, on an intricately carved stone floor. Once she had gathered herself, she looked up at the firelit couple staring down at her and gasped, "Oh no..."Solo Adventure Across the Feydark and the Feywild
Upon returning to her compatriots late on the 20th of Winterfall, 866WA, Peaseblossom provided the following account of her adventure:She tells you about fighting the gelatinous cubes, about feeling swung through the darkness and landing in a heap on the stone floor of the Unseelie Court: the faction of the Fey adverse to her own and that of Mote and Thistle. She says she was interrogated by Siramon and Sibelle - she was talking too fast for you to get details there - and that when they tried to cast a binding spell on her she tricked them by disappearing in a cloud and making them wonder if their magic had failed or killed her. She tells you that she stole away that evening and found her old friend Alette, a fairy of the Unseelie Court, who agreed to secret her away back to her own faction. They slipped away in the night undetected, and Peaseblossom called out a Cait Sidhe, bid her friend farewell, and rode the preternaturally swift cat back to the Seelie Court. She says that when she got there, she demanded audience with Thistle and explained the extent of your predicament. Thistle seemed sympathetic but explained that they could not part with the IOU. They said something about taking it out of play. “But,” she says now, “They didn’t understand. This isn’t a game. And playing a good trick on a demon isn’t worth losing a friend! And I started to cry and everyone was whispering and laughing at me and I realized that I had never had a real friend before to worry about, and I looked around the court and I also realized that… neither had they. They just didn’t understand.” “So I told Thistle again that they had to give me the IOU, they just had to, and that was it. And I told them with magic in my breath. And they went really quiet like they really had to think about it, and then they said, ‘yes, I have to give you this instrument,’ and I said thank you and please don’t be mad and then I ran away.” “But before I even left the hall Thistle started yelling and Mustardseed threw a tablecloth at me and I think someone knocked their arm and they missed and I just kept flying and flying and everyone was throwing everything but soon they couldn’t see me and I left and I didn’t even get it too crumpled up.” “So I spent the whole night under the roots of a silver willow trying to think of what to do and how to get back as fast as I could. And I realized that if I needed to get all the way back here, only one tribe could help me, so I sought out the kitsune. The fox-spirits. And I told them what I needed to do, and how mad Thistle was, and they said they couldn’t get involved and then I started to yell and cry and the mother-spirit yelled at the father-spirit until he promised to send me down through the ley-lines back to where I first disappeared. So… here I am! Oh, and here. Now you don’t have to die!” From her body language, you’re concerned that she might actually attempt a backflip out of sheer boundless self-esteem.
Another Disappearance
Peaseblossom disappeared again only a few seconds after entering the building that hosted the events of the Ambush at Commissioner's Hall. She later revealed herself again, explaining that she had been in a frantic portal-bouncing chase with Azas, with whom she has some serious beef. In the lead-up to the ambush, the demon possessed her and deliberately broke most of her fingers as a demonstration of its power and sadism. She believes she ditched him in some other realm for now, it being easier for her to pop into the Feywild and back to Prime Material from some other obscure realm than it is for Azas to chart a path back... but she's confident he won't be gone for long. Shortly after those events, Peaseblossom acquitted herself nicely in The Assault on Anthur-Ro, blinding a basilisk by clawing its eyes shut and later, when facing Ongli's challenge in the Hall of Events Non-Canonical, braving extraordinary temperatures to which she had some natural resistance to secure the escape key before the lower chamber flooded with lava, trapping the heroes.Powers and Abilities
Although the full scope of Peaseblossom's powers have yet to be assessed, the Hiking Club has observed Peaseblossom:- Cast some form of minty-smelling charm on Gus the Whaler in Angel's Rest;
- Cast a yellow colour spray on the Arachnomancer in Echadnaur;
- Bite through thick, sticky spider webs with relative ease;
- Stabilize an unconscious Clytemnestra "Fanny" Glitters with some form of breath magic;
- Send an orc running psychotically away from the Battle of Lakeshore with a puff of pink glitter; and
- Turn invisible at will, particularly around strangers;
- Dip generally into the Enchantment school of magic;
- Weep sapphires and keep small objects in her cheek pouches like a hamster.
