Start of the Expedition

Structure

Exposition

Since Dimble Cloak wanted to move as quick as possible he set out right away. He had assembled his team existing out of two guards, a cleric and a mage. Because the Keepers had good relations with the Shining Crystals they were allowed to use the entrance to the Lower Realms below the Cryserium. Once the safety measures were lifted the group could begin their journey.   33rd of Irami’el 1245 AE (Original Group)   After a some sleep the original group left as well but by other means. They went to the Psigest district where they met one of Janos Dorivas’s subordinates. He showed them a hatch that lead straight down to old Avaronian ruins which would eventually lead to the Lower Realms. But before they got there they noticed a light in the distance. Luckily this person was going away in another direction. A bit later though they heard some weird chanting and after an investigation with the eagle they saw a few hunderd cultists chanting in front of a large statue in what appeared to have been the ruins of an old temple. The group decided to move stealthy … and failed miserably. Two guards in Avaronian armor caught them and asked them what their intentions were. The guards then escorted them to the presumed entrance to the Lower Realms but locked the door after them. Since they were trapped the adventurers had no choice but to continue onwards. Suddenly tentacles errupted from the ground and started attacking them. Several grick came out of the ground and blocked the way. The fight ended when Syro managed to bite the largest monster to death and received praise from the rest of the group. After some more travelling through ruins their group entered the Lower Realms as well although at least half a day behind Dimble.

Rising Action

Exploring the dark

34th of Irami’el 1245 AE (Dimble)   The first thing that Dimble’s group encountered was a Myconid village. The Keepers told them that these humanoids could possibly be used as a guide. After a strange experience where Dimble and the Myconids bonded telepathically two of them agreed to show them the way to several old Gnome ruins. They decided to pick the most likely ruin first.   35th of Irami’el 1245 AE (Original Group)   Meanwhile the original group encountered their first real obstacle on the third day of their expediton. They encountered a big chasm that would make them lose a lot of time by first scaling down and up again. Going around it seemed like it would also take an extra day. Given the situation they agreed to experiment a bit with the advanced weapons they procured from the Raitin. With the harpoon gun they tried to get a rope going from their side of the chasm to the other side. Eventually though the weapons stopped working. When they looked at the weapon they could see the crystal inside had become dull while it had been full of energy before. Remembering what the Raitin used Syro for they asked the little dragon to use it’s lightning breath on the crystal. This instantly filled the elemental crystal and after putting it back in the weapon functioned normal again. After some trying they finally managed to get the rope to the other side and managed to cross the chasm. On the other side however they quickly had to hide since a patrol of several Dark Elves, of which some were riding on spiders followed by captives, was passing by. After some closer observation they could see that some of the captives were Raitin. The group decided to follow them since the Dark Elf group was going in the direction they wanted to go, but they kept their distance.   36th of Irami’el 1245 AE (Dimble)   Dimble and his group were taking a different route and eventually entered a smaller set of tunnels compared to the more open areas of the other group. In some of these tunnels they encountered some ogres but the group managed to deal with them quickly.   38th of Irami’el 1245 AE (Original Group)   After a few days of following the Dark Elf group the adventurers saw the Dark Elves set up camp and wait for several hours. Eventually another group joined the Dark Elves. It did not take long to see that these newcomers wore the same Avaronian armors as the ones that had been chanting at the start of their journey to the Lower Realms. The meeting between them seemed amicable and afterwards they continued their journey together.   39th of Irami’el 1245 AE (Dimble)   A few days later the group of Dimble encounterd a bigger problem. They came upon a small chasm with a bridge across it. They decided to go over it one by one as it did not seem to be in the best condition. Dimble, the cleric, a guard and one of the Myconids had just crossed when disaster struck. A small earthquake could be felt and with it the bridge collapsed taking one of the Myconids with it. That was not the end of it though since together with the small earthquake some insectlike looking creatures burrowed themselves out of the ground. Dimble remembered them as the 'extinct' Nethik that was exhibited in the museum. Both the mage and one of the guards were on the other side surrounded by at least 3 of these Nethiks. Altough they managed to kill one the mage decided to flee and fly to the other side while the guard that remained was eaten alive. On the otherside of the chasm the group managed to kill the leader of the Nethik group but almost died to it’s acid in the progress. Dimble’s group managed to survive but were with fewer people than they started.   1st of Raperi’el 1245 AE (Original Group)   The adventurers managed to continue their chase until suddenly they smelled a strange odor. Since the group thought the gas could be dangerous they decided to make a detour. It proved to be the safest choice but they lost time and enlarged the distance between them and the Dark Elf group.

Climax

Closing in on the ruin

2nd of Raperi’el 1245 AE (Dimble)   As Dimble came close to his intented goal he noticed some fighting in the distance. His group quickly hid behind some rocks to observe what was going on. Before he could get a clear view of the attacker he could see several Nethik being killed by energy blasts. A bit later the attacker came into view so the group could see it was a golem. He put on the magic bracelet he got before in the Dwarven ruins and went to greet the golem. To his surprise the golem greeted him and addressed him as friend. By questioning the golem he learned that the golem was put here to eliminate threats, specifically the Nethik, and that his homebase was a city nearby. The golem however told him that the ruined city was taken over by Dark Elves. After some additional questioning he heard that the Raitin had passed by here quite recently as well. Satisfied with his answers Dimble and his group continued onward to the ruined city.   3rd of Raperi’el 1245 AE (Dimble)   In the distance Dimble could see the ruins of the ancient Gnome city. But before he could do anything the group was attacked by several Dark Elves and giant spiders. The last thing Dimble remembered of the event was a pain in his neck and his vision slowly going dark.

Resolution

4th of Raperi’el 1245 AE (Original Group)   The others got sight of the ruined city as well. However they did not get attacked luckily. What they did find however was the aftermath of a fight with several poisoned arrows on the ground. Among the dead was one Dark Elf and a Myconid but the other participants of the battle were gone.   4th of Raperi’el 1245 AE (Dimble)   Once Dimble woke up he could get some quick view of his surroundings. He cleary was taken into the city but it was filled with a lot of Dark Elves and he could even see some High Elves among them. After being dragged around together with his group they arrived at a small courtyard with in the middle a hulking machine. This appeared to be the golem Dimble was looking for. But his joy was short lived as not shortly after seeing the golem he was thrown in a cell. At least he had a view on the golem from there.
