Passing with Orios Myth in Nimenra | World Anvil

Passing with Orios

In the end, we all die. How we die determines much, how we continue after this life, what becomes of our spirit, and our minds. Orios is but the first one to aid us to the realm of the dead but he is the most important one.
— Arch-Ofrain Orlav Reemund
The afterlife, whatever it is, is an unknown fog of mystique even for the pantheons of The Eight Pantheons. Many priests and priestesses have read and learned different myths and legends from the War of the Gods and of what others have experienced and been told by the Gods. Nothing is sure and debates on this matter exist with no exact answer.
In the Cult of Orios the priesthood has accepted that Orios will one day arrive to take you away from this life. How He does it is determined by one big factor: How you lived and how you died. In a warrior's death, you will always meet Him; in a fat merchant's bed, you will more likely be disregarded, your spirit left to roam Nimenra.

Death - ending or anew?

Orios is said to appear to all who dedicate themselves to Him. During the War of the Gods, He fought with many of His own chosen and helped their spirit into the realm of the dead after every battle. The ones who were the bravest, fought without fear and for their survival were the first to be led and honored by Orios. He takes their hand and travels with them to the afterlife. When one passes on it is said that to the truly dedicated and chosen, He grants one wish within His powers. When one passes the gates they can live their next life in the great green pastures, fighting and revelling themselves.
But there is another side to all this. Those who die outside of the field of battle might have to wait. Orios cannot be in several places at once after all. Dying in bed of sickness is not His place to help the spirit to live on. These He takes His time with as warriors are the ones He rather travels with. This, however, does not mean everyone who dies of age or disease, only those who have decided to live outside the warrior's and Orios' way of life. Depending on the dead's virtues in His eyes and what the dead has accomplished, Orios might even take these at first hand. An old warrior's tales are much more valuable to Orios than a young man who has shown and accomplished nothing.

To what end do people believe that HE will be there? How would they know? Passing to the realm of the dead means an ending, perhaps a beginning to some. But those are few... Why would HE ever allow every single warrior to pass on to a new life?   I say this, few are chosen... fewer still than that will ever know the truth...
