Mystic Kyr Oracle Tradition / Ritual in Nimenra | World Anvil

Mystic Kyr Oracle

I don't say I would trust one, however... They are not doomsayers like others, for a fact I might almost believe that they are somewhat able to use some sort of divination to see into a person and also the future.
— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
In the past times of the Kingdom of Kyrkas wandering mystics were commonplace for the Kyrians. None were as prevalent as the Kyr Mystics at the time who would foretell events and look "into" people for their aspects and personality traits. These oracles were much respected when Kyrkas ruled the lands in the east. Their failure, however, to see and predict the fall of Kyrkas and the extensive persecution they suffered after its fall has made them a rare sight. They are so rare in fact that it is believed that they are at most only a few hundred remaining, keeping the tradition of Mystic Kyr Oracle alive.

Oracles of Kyrkas

The Kyr Oracle was a collection of fortune-telling and ways of prediction. The mystics, as they call themselves, would help people understand the world and themselves using divination. The Mystic Kyr Oracle could be done in various ways.

The Forsight

Divining into a person and seeing their past, present and future were a gift that they are said to have gained or be born with. By intense staring, gestures and the use of paint, the mystic would make a prediction, solve a future problem or advice about the distress that the person found themselves in. This foresight, according to the mystics, would dive into the mind of the person and the magic of the Nimenra. They would not promise an exact or true prediction of a solution, only the way to work towards it.

Communing

With groups, the Mystic Kyr Oracle could attempt communing. Each of participant would tell their problem to the mystic and the gathered while the mystic, in an attempt to aid, would use their abilities to aid them and measure the problem. The mystic would also invite the other participants to aid in understanding and exploring the problem. Insight from the many was a way for the mystics to expand the aid they could provide as the answers given by other participants for the problem could be discussed and measured together. The mystic would eventually give a solution from the communing.

Fault and false prophecy

Kyr Mystics were not always correct and they never promised to be. Their methods of divining into a person's mind and magic were also secret. Some said that the Kyr Mystics were falsifiers, similar to false doctors and other fortune tellers. Their rituals with Mystic Kyr Oracle were always questioned, and the priesthood of the Cult of Orios was fiercely against them. Even other denominations in The Eight Pantheons called the rituals false when Kyr Mystics might have predicted the Gods and Their ways. Magic users are also sceptical of the way they "use" magic since it is unseen and not noticeable beyond gestures and speech.
Our predictions... They are not prophetic visions of the Gods, our or The Others. We aid people where others can't, accessing their inner minds in a way that others can't without hurting them. It is the aid we provide to soothe. Predictions? Yes, but only if we see them. If they fail to come true, we can have seen wrong or the Gods and Nimenra have changed in a way we could not see. Even as strong as Mystic Kyr Oracle is... other forces act and mislead our sight too.
