Hudtùr
I have only heard from relatives to exiles and migrants from Nekuram about Hudtùr, the tower of knowledge and magic. It is there skilled magic users are sent to hone their abilities and research its nature, among other things. However... I have also heard other facts about this tower... According to those, it is a tower for the insane and maddened with magic powers. The whole population that lives in there is not like that, but... most inside the tower are not let out apparently.— Everam, Teller of Nimenra
Hudtùr is the name of both the tower and settlement where Nekuram is said to have their leading magic scholars and users. It is located far from any other settlement close to the northwestern mountains. The tower is home to several hundreds of wizards and magic users of different kinds that daily try to look deeper into the lores and abilities of magic.
However, there is another, darker rumour about the tower and many of its inhabitants. The strongest and most powerful magic users are kept inside as well and few even know their names despite magic's usefulness and their supposed knowledge. It is thus said that these magic users are insane, mad or deranged in such a way that they are only a danger to everyone but themselves, or even themselves. Those with reason, maddened or not, are kept inside because of their magical affinity and ability so no one can be harmed or allow them to reign free.
The Tower of Magic
Nekuram have had their leading magic users and scholars isolated in this tower for many centuries. It is a towering grey stone building with an astonishing height of 120 meters, larger than any other, and is said to have powerful sigils of deterrence and power to prevent powerful magic to be able to penetrate its walls. Any scholar wishing to read about magic is free to apply for a chance to enter, knowing full well what they might encounter inside. Since the tower also houses a lot of non-magic books it is a paradise for any scholar, or so it is said. Several of the first five floors are open to being browsed with permission from the ruler of the tower, the Exilos, but few are allowed entrance still since "accidents" tends to happen inside even with guards around the clock watching.
The Hamlet of Hudtùr
Outside the tower is a small hamlet providing the food and everyday needs for the tower. Living in the hamlet is hard living according to the people who have been tothe tower. Growing food is harsh even with local wheat and vegetables. Animals tend to stay away even more than usual so meat is not a common commodity for the area beyond trade from villages several kilometres away. It is blamed upon the shadow that stands over the hamlet, for the magic still permeates outwards and affects the area. Some say that the purple fog that sometimes is spotted around the tower is an extra precaution from the current Exilos to lessen the impact on the surrounding area. The hamlet still lives on, however, the inhabitants find their duty to the tower an entrusted task that has been continued for generations.
