Unicorn's Eye

A symbol used across many cultures with different meanings. Though its design varies considerably, the general shape is of an oblong eye and iris with a rectangular pupil, possibly accompanied by additional shapes. A loop to the top or bottom or a tear may be added as well.

History

It was first used by the Mottish tribes of Aposfabr as a symbol of deference and respect to nature. It was most often labelled on abandoned villages to mean the place was forgotten and reclaimed by nature. Some marked their tools with it as good luck charms or to indicate it was not intended to do excessive harm to the natural world (i.e. a hoe or a torch). A mob seeking to rape and pillage would forgo such marked tools out of respect for the natural world.   Humans picked up this symbol and beastpeople soon after, giving it names like "lucky eye," "Demonsbane," and "Antras Pequio" (which roughly translates to "little warden"). Over time, the symbol became known as a ward against evil and was engraved into bracelets and necklaces, carved into effigies hung above the doorframe, and even tattooed onto the body. The latter case was often associated with gaining the ability to see and dispel evil things.   Curiously, by extension of the symbol and its original name, Unicorns themselves rose to a mythological status and became synonymous with certain gods and evil-dispelling powers. This is especially true of the Jonu Quiato and Canterlund regions. This led to many sorcerers to seek out unicorns for their rumored extraordinary powers, only to be disappointed by their similarity to any Undyne or Nymph.   Adoption of the Unicorn's Eye into official organizations includes the Daunthel coat of arms, the logo of the 116th Helpharian squadron (and several lesser known squads before them), the Sorcerers of Sulymindre, and the League of Gauthric Druids.
Unicorn eyes sometimes exhibit many pupils in semi-geometric arrangements. This seems to be the inspiration for the symbol and explains its ties to order, equilibrium, and power.
