Manatz (Mah-NATS)

The northern coast of the continent is a land of beaches and brackish waters. Mangrove swamps choke the shoreline and numerous inland springs push through the limestone. It is a place rich with diverse life, host to plants, insects, and small animals found nowhere else on the continent. Historically, it has been a desolate place, unsettled by the Gauthra and only home to a few thousand Humans. The Manatza are the people native to this land.

History

Before Helenaphe, the major denizens of the coastal lands were the Kimbur. A handful of Ebigana and Estiduan existed as well. The Ebigana and Kimbur resided in seaside settlements, subsisting on shellfish and eel. Communities also formed around the inland springs, much like the Etz-resgke of Jonunieres. Some of these communities grew into sizable towns, the largest of which, called Dearspris, did trade with villages as far reaching as the Sullymindre.   The arrival of the gods caused the turning of the Kimbur and within weeks the lands were emptied of its Gauthran peoples. Though some of the Estiduan remained, able to hide from the raging Kimbur.   A coalition of six gods called the Seissesas took their group of humans from modern-day Sulghury to these lands. Though they were peaceful and had intentions to ally with the local Giants, the Kimbur attacked and two of the six perished, along with many humans. Guided by several Estiduan, they settled further down the coast where the Kimbur were less of a threat. The Estiduan called the place Manatz which is the word for "seafoam" and so the gods declared it thusly and their people they called Manatza.
