Elves
Most ancient of the mortal races of Sol, the Elves are the long-lived natives of the continent. Physically, in the modern age, elves share little in common aside from pointed ears and fine figures. Most elven cultures venerate their traditions and ancestors strongly and believe in a communal identity.
The First Folk
The elves claim descent from the ancient natives of Sol, who they call the First Folk or ancient elves. In mythic times, the elves spread across the continent, settling it from the frigid north to the equatorial southern lands. Over time, the elves would separate based on cultural distance, religious schisms, and political fracturing. Some would settle in the harsh deserts of Asvathas and become the desert elves, and others would tame the wild domain of the great woodlands and become the wood elves, while others would venture below the earth to become the night elves and deep elves. Many other subraces would emerge in early elven history. Today, they exist as separate cultures spread across the continent.The Fey Realm
Some say elves originate in the Fey Realm, an otherworldly plane of wild magic where some relatives still remain, such as the eladrin. Unlike humans, the elves are naturally magical, possessing knowledge of the arcane innately. Even the least knowledgeable of the elves can cast a few simple incantations without training.Elven Eminence
Another distinction of their race is the ability to live extremely long lives for mortals, it ranges by race, but most elven groups can live well beyond 500 years. This venerable lifespan and aptitude for magical power leave many elven races with a superiority complex, seeing themselves as the stewards of the world, most fit to lead the mortal races. This trait lends the name high elves to those who chose to remain in their homeland of the Svaelyn Isles.Additional Information
Facial characteristics
The signature characteristic of elves is elongated pointy ears. They also tend to have sharper features than humans. Their scleras have a tint similar to their iris.
Lifespan
300 - 600 years, Orcs are an exception, having a lifespan similar to humans. Elves mature at a similar rate as humans until about 20, at which point they remain a young adult for centuries.
Average Height
Varies, most elven races range from 5'2 to 5'8 on average, while High Elves, Desert Elves, and Orcs tend to be taller.
