Usora

Three separate islands make up the region of Usora, all within close enough proximity to each other to be considered the same territory. The central island of Usora floats nearly 30,000 feet above sea level, with the other, smaller islands measuring within a couple thousand feet in elevation. The high altitudes and temperatures have shaped Usora, even though the territories are kept temperate and livable within the same shields that protect them from aetherstorms.   Mountains are scattered throughout Usora, though calling them a mountain range would be slightly misleading. The mountains of Usora might have once been connected, but the movement of the landmasses has erased any evidence of such. Several small fresh-water rivers flow throughout Usora, fed by snow melts from nearby mountain peaks. The rivers are rarely used as a source of water in modern days, due to the number of spellcasters able to create fresh water from nothing, but it is still used for fishing. Mostly, the rivers in Usora are admired for their purity and beauty, and are a wonder in and of themselves.   The city-states in Usora tend to be less rural than the areas outside of the shields. Holly, cedar, and birch trees have all adapted - or have been magically altered - in order to survive the extreme temperatures of such a high elevation. Saplings of these trees can be found decorating the city-states, but most are left to grow in peace, as stone is the common material in most city-state construction.    The mountains and mines of Usora are home to several minerals and metals that can't be found elsewhere in Neria, likely due to the temperature and altitude differences between Usora and other Highland regions. Aushirine, for example, is a light gray mineral with a melting point of only 60 °F (15.5  °C). It is a terrible conductor of both heat and electricity, but when kept solid, the metal is nearly unbreakable. Ucton is a strange mineral, resembling charcoal in texture and color, but is dense enough to not break apart on impact. The small, peppercorn-shaped ore has been used to make improvised ammunition in the past.
